Overview: Herbert Resnicow was a civil engineer, earning his degree at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, who made a drastic career move at the age of 60 – when his first detective novel, The Gold Solution (1983), landed him a nomination for an Edgar statuette in the category Best First Novel. Resnicow was unable to secure the coveted price, but the tone was set and he wrote a score of classically-styled whodunits in the succeeding decade, featuring the wise-cracking behemoths Alexander and Norma Gold or the entrepreneur Ed Bear and his philosopher son Warren, as well as outsourcing his talent to abet Edward I. Koch and Pelé with their literary aspirations.

01 Dead Room
The anechoic chamber of Hamilcar Hi-Fi – the dead room – was the only soundproof, airtight place to test new speakers. It was also the perfect place for an airtight murder.
That’s where seventy-year-old inventor Walter Kassel was stabbed to death while testing his secret HHF-10 sound system… a million-dollar baby that would take the six owners of Hamilcar Hi-Fi out of bankruptcy and into stereo heaven.
Businessman Ed Baer and his philosopher son, Warren, aren’t your typical detective team. But Ed’s invested a lot of money in Hamilcar… and the ‘perfect’ crime sounds too intriguing to ignore…
02 The Hot Place
A mystery which begins with the murder of Barney Brodsky in the steam room of the Oakdale Country Club. When Warren Baer and his father Ed launch their own investigation into the murder they quickly learn that there are many people who wouldn’t have minded seeing Brodsky dead.
