Overview: Nova Nelson grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie novels. She loves the mind candy of cozy mysteries and has been weaving paranormal tales since she first learned handwriting. Those two loves meet in her Eastwind Witches series, and it’s about time, if she does say so herself.
When she’s not busy writing, she enjoys long walks with her strong-willed dogs and eating breakfast for dinner.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Death Metal #2: Just when I’m getting the hang of this new life, death pays me another visit.
This time, it takes the form of a werewolf suicide, or at least that’s what our were-elk deputy is calling it.
But the victim’s ghost has other ideas, and since I’m one of only two psychics in town, the restless spirit visits me, asking for my help in finding her killer.
That’s fine, but does she have to do it right as I’m having a romantic moment with my crush, Tanner Culpepper? Talk about a liplock block.
Sure, Tanner is technically my boss now, and making out is a big professional no-no. However, it’s also a gigantic personal yes please.
But I can’t refuse a ghost’s plea for help, so now, in the few spare moments between waiting tables, sleeping, listening to the litany of complaints from my emo canine familiar, and dodging come-ons from Ted the grim reaper, I get to solve another murder.
I guess romance with Tanner will have to wait. But that’s fine. I’m not bitter.
Seriously. I’m not.
(Okay, maybe just a little.)
When one of the victim’s family members begins exhibiting the same signs of silver poisoning that brought down my new spirit friend, I know the clock is ticking.
If I don’t solve the murder and convince Deputy Manchester to make the arrest, the magical town of Eastwind could have another death on its hands …
Queso de los Muertos #4: A town cook-off has never seemed so life-or-death.
I’m not competitive, per se, but when Eastwind’s Lunasa Festival rolls around and I hear about the annual cook-off competition, I’m in it to win it. Because I want nothing more than to beat the pants off of Donovan Stringfellow.
Eh-hem. Figuratively speaking.
I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to introduce chips and queso to the magical town of Eastwind, and the time is ripe.
If the dish can lead me to a decisive victory, even better.
However, I didn’t anticipate someone tampering with my recipe, and now I have a bit of a magical mess on my hands, one beyond what melted cheese alone could produce.
And good Gaia if the problem doesn’t have “necromancy” written all over it.
I swear it wasn’t me, but if I don’t figure out who did it and rumor spreads that the owner of Medium Rare tampered with food (and let’s be serious, rumors spread fast around here), the diner Tanner and I have worked so hard to keep afloat might be sunk.
Gone Witch #6: A witch is missing, and if I can’t find her, Eastwind may never be the same.
When a North Wind witch vanishes, the Eastwind Coven asks for my help finding her. But unless she’s dead and feeling chatty, I don’t know how much help my Fifth Wind powers will be.
Lucky for the Coven, though, I’m in need of a serious distraction from my own problems, so I agree to look into it for them. With Landon’s help, I might just get to the bottom of where the witch has gone. Is it into hiding or into the afterlife? Here’s to hoping for the former.
Time is running out to discover the truth, though, because when word about her disappearance spreads through Eastwind, longstanding tensions between witches and werewolves begin to boil over. If I don’t find her soon, hundred of years of peace in Eastwind may come to an abrupt end.
