Book #1 – A Druid’s Magic
When Durstan celebrated Beltane with Ailan in 794AD, they believed that their sexual awakening would honour the Old Gods, and ensure the fertility of the earth. Despite falling in love that night she has disappeared, and the young Monk is distraught.
He journeys magically into the past with Brionach who has come to Iona, to guide him in the old way of the Druid Bard, through tales of the Ancestors and their experience of love.
Garwyn, an Iron Age priestess, is infatuated with a Roman centurion from the Vindolanda fort. He betrays her. Ara suffers at the hands of a Neolithic hunter, whilst Artuir and Gwenhwyfar’s 5th century romance is broken by Lleenog, and there are others.
Beth is mischief making with Alys as Durstan discovers what happened to his sister, Mora, when he was taken to the monastery as a child. Her husband, Duncan, is Lord of Mull so there is much to be told.
You’ll find charms, runes, and spells here. Magic is an everyday occurrence in the Early Medieval period. People believe in Dragons, Elves, and the Wyrd. Many have still not converted to Christianity but continue to worship the Old Gods, while Vikings threaten the monasteries along the coastline of the British Isles.
Will Durstan be guided by the Druid’s storytelling, and find love again… with Ailan?
A Druid’s Magic is an exciting introduction to the Durstan series, and a standalone novella, set in the real Middle-Earth we called the Dark Ages.

Book #2 – The Monk Who Cast A Spell
In a richly woven tale from the Dark Ages, a young Monk falls in love contrary to the vows he made as a boy, but Ailan disappears after their sexual awakening at Beltane. Durstan is shocked and confused when he meets her again, several months later.
He is drawn then to Beth who believes that she can obtain the protection of the Christian Church by manipulating his emotions. When the Vikings attack the Iona Monastery in 794AD, Durstan is injured in the raid.
The story unfolds against the beautiful scenery of Scotland’s Hebridean Islands. The characters cross the sea in coracles from Iona to Mull. They walk through an ancient forest to Lord Duncan’s hall, inside its timber enclosure. The seasons change from spring to midwinter when the Old Gods are in the magic of the firelight, and shadows at Yule.
Fear of violence; being outcast, or enslaved is prevalent in the real Middle-Earth we called the Dark Ages. Along with the use of charms; amulets, and spells. The early Christian Church continues to be challenged by the Old Gods; tradition, and the Druids who are left. Following the destruction of their order from the late Iron Age.
And Durstan’s quest? …To regain Ailan’s love.
Based on the Author’s historical research… The Monk Who Cast A Spell is the first full length novel in the Durstan series. It can also be read as a standalone book.

Book #3 – Passion And The Monk
Although passion burns in the hearts of men and women, tragedy can still occur. After fleeing from the monastery on Iona, Durstan has land of his own in Northumbria. Living under the protection of King Eardwulf of Bebbanburg, and Hygebald, Bishop of Lindisfarne. He fails to notice Ailan’s attraction to Marrec, and when Beth arrives at the royal hall she tries again to lure him into a romantic entanglement. The story takes place in 800AD against the escalating violence of the Viking raids; threat of an invasion by Coenwulf of Mercia, and the early Christian Church continuing to be challenged by belief in the Old Gods. Whilst Durstan is torn by the love he feels for two beautiful women. Passion And The Monk is a tale of murder; mystery, and magic based on the history of the time. This second full length novel should be read as part of the Durstan series following The Monk Who Cast A Spell, and the prequel, A Druid’s Magic.
