Overview: Within our universe, certain individuals can step out of existence; they step into a different world, one that parallels ours, but eerily resembles medieval Europe. Rachel has just dropped out of law school; unfortunately, she has no clue what else to do with her life – using her fencing skills isn’t an option. She’s been evicted from her apartment, and, after a history of struggling with her father’s expectations, has no other prospects outside of moving back in with her parents – until her elusive Uncle Jack calls with an unexpected offer: a job at his bookstore while he temporarily disappears. Upon her arrival at the bookshop, Rachel inexplicably begins traveling to another dimension while she sleeps. This other dimension gives her a sense of purpose: she’s been hired as the Queen’s personal guard, a position which puts her right in the middle of diplomatic compromise and revolutionary threats. There’s also the Queen’s son, Prince David, who neither wants the throne, nor wants to marry. His atypical views on life give him something in common with Rachel, the girl who secretly belongs to another world. Together, they begin to tackle the reasons behind Rachel’s dual existent abilities, just in time for the revolution against David’s crown to explode. All the while, the true threat spans both the castle and Rachel’s modern world. When this threat comes to light, Rachel will realize what’s really at stake – not only David’s throne, and not her nonexistent career, but both Rachel and David’s entire existence.
