Overview: Following a disagreement of how the realm of Artaminis was ruled, civil war broke out amongst the dragon clans. The monarchy, who resided on Opal Island, was demolished and each clan became responsible for their own. Each clan had their own ruler and independently led their territory. Despite immense distrust for one another, peace prevailed all the while the leaders of each clan avoided crossing over to one another’s land and kept to the one overriding rule that clans do not mate outside their own.
Ember grew up in an orphanage on Earth. With no idea who she really was, when she came of age, everything she thought she knew about the world she lived in, turned upside down. As she begins to accept who and what she is, the mystery surrounding her heritage begins to cause her an overwhelming need to delve into her past and find out why she had been abandoned by her mother in another realm.
Valen is the next in line to become the ruler of Opal Island. His ancestors had been in control of the Opal clan ever since the monarchy had been abolished. With strict rules on how he is required to rule, who he is to marry, and what his responsibilities are, he begins to feel trapped by the prehistoric regime his clan are held under. He desires change and wants to become a respected and honourable leader.
With fated mates no longer believed in and deemed a creation of the vivid imaginations of storytelling, each dragon must choose their future mate. However, by decree of Opal Island, it is law for Valen’s bride to be chosen for him. Unhappy with his father’s choice in bride, Valen escapes the Island to try and find his own way in life, no longer believing his destiny is on the Island.
When Ember and Valen meet, in an unexpected chance encounter, they have nothing but contempt for one another. However, it soon became clear that there was more to the pair than first thought. With their defiance of the rules of the land, it soon becomes apparent their presence was not welcome by any of the clans and only by working together, did they have a chance to try and stop a war that their actions had caused.
Can they overcome their differences enough to work together to prevent a war of their doing? Will Ember find out the secrets of her past? And Will Valen find his place in the realm?
