Overview: Doctor Palfrey is a spy, head of Z5. He is a Physician of some renown and is lured into an elite espionage world. During the course of the stories the character goes through some transformation. Doctor Palfrey is made second in command by the end of the war. Although after the war he resumes his civilian life he is drawn back into action and becomes leader of the Z5.

(06) Hounds of Vengeance
Z5 is given the task of finding and capturing a Nazi fugitive. It’s chief agent, Dr. Palfrey, manages to learn more than anyone expected when he discovers that far from being alone, the man is only one of a growing and powerful band who, resenting their country’s defeat, are now bent on revenge upon those that brought it about. He must defeat them and their objective.

In a desperate battle against time, pitting their wits against the most villainous of conspirators, Dr. Palfrey and the agents of Z5 become involved in one of the most fearsome adventures of their lives, and Dr. Palfrey faces the most powerful force he has yet encountered.
(11) The Sons of Satan
Mallen passes through Customs after a transatlantic crossing, but then a mysterious box that he has smuggled ashore becomes the subject of violent attempts to seize it. Behind these is to be found Abba, an arch-evil buccaneer who will stop at nothing. He is extremely rich and he and his followers will do everything possible to promote international discord and trouble, not least through the practice of black magic. Dr. Palfrey steps into the fray and must somehow deal with the situation before it gets totally out of hand, but that is not as easy as might be imagined.

Extract from ‘News Chronicle’, October 19 ….: ‘RADIOACTIVE CITY’ OF LIGHT DARWIN, Wednesday. A Darwin explorer and photographer, Mr. Keith Young, believes he has found radioactivity in a mysterious ‘forbidden city’ in Arnhem Land, inside the aboriginal reserve. Mr. Young went to photograph the ‘city’ – which is fashioned by Nature from great limestone cliffs. The rock formation is shaped like battlements, towers, walls and streets. Mr. Young said: ‘At night the “city” glowed with eerie light, which I consider to be radioactive in origin. ‘He says he will not disclose the location of what he considers may be radioactive ores until he has discussed the matter with Canberra officials.–A. Dr. Palfrey is confronted with the most crucial assignment of his life. Failure will mean not only his own death but the certain destruction of any hope of transforming Russia and, with her, the world.
His mission—to secretly cross into Russia, locate a certain man in hiding from Communist authorities deep within that country, and bring back news of his fate to the leaders of the free world.

Blackmail ensues and Palfrey must deal with what could be the worst situation he has ever faced; an overwhelming and brutal conspiracy that threatens the lives of millions of people.

Dr. Palfrey is faced with one of the most difficult problems and a more powerful adversary than he has previously met. A mysterious disease strikes down some of the world’s most powerful figures; then their daughters also become victims. Palfrey and Z5 undertake a perilous journey to oust the cause and the truth and to prevent domination of the planet by an irresponsible power and fearful new weapons.

Why do two of Dr. Palfrey’s devoted Z5 agents die as they try to penetrate the secrets of Valhalla? Is Thor’s plan to dominate the world for good or for evil? How can Dr. Palfrey defeat a man who can control the forces of the atom and has contained in a hammer no bigger than Thor’s Crusher a device powerful enough to destroy a city?
