1. Dixie Divas (2009)
I’d never thought of Bitty’s ex-husband as a particularly handsome man, but in death, he was downright homely. I’m not sure how long I stood there staring at him with Bitty’s vampire cape in my hand, but the voices from the living room finally seeped into my stupefied brain and I hung the crocheted cape on the doorknob and went into the kitchen.
I found a silver tray, an already prepared pitcher of tea and a bowl of lemon wedges in the refrigerator, and somehow put together glasses, ice, napkins and long-handled silver teaspoons to take into the living room.
Seated precariously and obviously uncomfortably on the 1850’s horsehair-stuffed couch, the two police officers appeared grateful for a diversion when I set the tray down on the antique Turkish hassock serving as a coffee table. Bitty had produced a linen handkerchief from somewhere in her black ensemble, and dabbed daintily at what I was certain were crocodile tears at the corners of her eyes.
“Bitty,” I said while the officers reached for the tea and lemon wedges, “would you mind stepping into the kitchen with me for just a moment?”
Something in my voice must have alerted her, for she gave me a startled glance and promptly excused herself. Neither officer protested.
Before Bitty could launch into a tale of mistreatment by local officials, I said bluntly, “I found Philip.”
With her mouth still open, Bitty looked at me. Then she said, “Well, I suppose that’s good news. For him, anyway. Where is the philandering Philip? Mexico? Paris? Rome? A Motel Six in Tupelo?”
“In your coat closet.”
Middle-aged and divorced, Trinket Truevine moves home to live with her aging parents in genteel and historic Cherry Hill, Mississippi. The Dixie Divas, a rowdy group of local belles, embrace her like a lost sister. Trinket soon finds herself and the Divas in the middle of a murder mystery surrounding the death of their pal Bitty’s ex-husband, a philandering senator. Fun, fast-paced and very southern, DIXIE DIVAS will appeal to readers who love the Ya-Ya’s, the Sweet Potato Queens, and Haywood Smith’s Red Hat Club novels.
2. Drop Dead Divas (2010)
"What happens with the Divas, stays with the Divas." Welcome to a genteel world of pimento cheese finger sandwiches, tall libations in frosted glasses, stiletto heels, aging southern-belle sisterhood, and murder . . . In Dixie Divas, Trinket Truevine, her pal Bitty and their raucous divas friends in the historic small town of Holly Springs, Mississippi, solved the murder of Bitty’s ex-senator husband, Phillip. Now, in Drop Dead Divas, the Divas are sleuthing again. Town bad girl Naomi Spencer has been accused of murdering her fiancé, drag race champion Race Champion. Soon, Naomi turns up dead, too. Talk about a fly in the martini . . . Join the bawdy fun as Trinket, Bitty and the gang unravel another small-town mystery.
3. Dixie Diva Blues (2011)
Trinket and the Gang Will Stop At Nothing To Clear A Diva’s Husband of Murder Charges. "You’d think a midnight prowler would have sense enough to get out after being discovered by a group of middle-aged women armed with flower vases. Or at least stop what he was doing. Not this one. Despite our menacing appearance, he kept opening cabinet doors and drawers. "Our intruder wore what looked like a black Ninja outfit. It did not flatter. He was a bit chunky and not much taller than me. Nor did he move very fast as Gaynelle and I bore down on him like a freight train. Instead of screaming in fear and fleeing out the front door-which stood wide open to help facilitate his escape-he turned away from the cabinet he had opened and threw something heavy. It was a Mason jar, and it hit poor Gaynelle right smack in the middle of the forehead. She dropped to the floor like a sack of flour. I looked down at her, then up at the masked intruder. Eyes glittered at me from the tiny eyeholes, and as he seemed to be unarmed-no more Mason jars at hand-I let out a bellow and charged him."
