Diesel Depot by Mark Nicholls

Overview: The diesel depot seems to have been around for ever, but in fact the concept is a relatively young one, with dedicated facilities appearing from the late 1950s onwards. This special Railways Illustrated publication takes an in-depth look at the development and life of the diesel depot, from the sharing of steam sheds through to the generic types that sprung up across the British Railways network in the 1960s. The story continues through sectorisation in the 1980s and into the privatised era. Specific depots are covered in detail, include three of the largest, Toton, Tinsley and Eastfield. Without doubt the unsung heros of the corporate BR years, they maintained a wonderful mix of loco types; we hope you enjoy this celebration of the diesel depot.
