Julia is a strong willed English woman who knows what she wants and is working hard to achieve it. An Olympic standard gymnast, she’s training hard every day in preparation for the upcoming Games, when tragedy strikes and her world ends with a phone call. Her parents have been killed in a senseless car accident, killed by a drunk driver. Suddenly everything is different.
On another world vastly removed from ours, a feeble king sits upon the throne of Deva, and traitorous lords scheme to take it from him. Only the lords of the four great fortresses remain vigilant and loyal to the kingdom. Deva seems doomed, as the legions of the Protectorate march. Lord Keverin of Fortress Athione is desperate to save his people and the land that he serves, but magic has long since waned in Deva’s people. Only Darius, a good friend and powerful wizard, might know the answer. A spell is cast to bring a champion to his aid, but something goes wrong and a Julia Morton suddenly finds herself stranded on an alien world with no friends and no way home.
The Power That Binds: A year on from Julia Morton’s arrival at Fortress Athione, an uneasy truce is being maintained between Deva and her enemies, but the Protectorate never rests. Believing himself destined to rule, Lord Mortain orders a new two-pronged attack into motion, and unleashes General Navarien upon the north in an effort to bypass Julia’s guardianship of Deva’s western border. Firstly, Navarien’s fifth legion is ordered to take three coastal cities in Camorin thereby securing a strong point in the north. Secondly, he relies upon a traitor close to Deva’s king, a gamble that pays off handsomely when King Pergann is assassinated. Having come to terms with her new life and role in Deva, Julia is content to live in the fortress with her lover, Lord Keverin, and stand vigil over the border with Hasa, but there’s more to life than planning her wedding. Reality intrudes with news from the capital. Thoughts of love, and romance, and wedding dresses have to be put on hold. With the King dead, and the lords vying for his throne, her new priority has to be ensuring the right man for the job is chosen.
The Warrior Within: Julia Morton, sorceress of Athione, has been defeated and all seems lost. Now in The Warrior Within, we find her suffering from Tancred addiction and her lover crossing Deva on his desperate mission to save her. Winter lies heavy upon the land, and Shelim, one time warrior and now shaman of the Night Wind Clan, is far from home. Driven north by his dreams of an outclan woman cloaked in death, and by his mentor’s fear of his clan’s defeat at the hands of Navarien’s legion, he struggles to persuade an obstinate clan chief to ally with the other clans at Denpasser.
Reunited with Julia when his best friend proves his skill over a clan swordmaster, Keverin has every intention of returning home with her to Athione and their wedding, but she has other ideas. Grateful to be alive, she swears to repay her debt by destroying the clan’s enemies once and for all, but Mortain’s heir has sent his son to join General Navarien, and with him comes two hundred sorcerers and thirty thousand legionnaires to personally oversee the clan’s destruction. The war enters a grimmer and more dangerous stage as both sides use fire, sword and sorcery indiscriminately in an effort to best the other without regard for the consequences.
