Overview: When CAT Architects win an International Architectural Competition for a major development, in the centre of Edinburgh, it seems that the Practice is destined for a bright future.
Fraser McLeod, one of the Directors, has run up a large gambling debt, however, and he’s given little time to pay the owner of the casino. Meanwhile, Seamus Cormack, an unscrupulous Building Contractor, is scheming to take control of the prestigious project.
When the other Directors decide to help Fraser with a loan and the firm’s finances are stretched to the limit.
Faced with the possibility of bankruptcy, the architects are desperate to save the company and their jobs so, when karate instructor Joe Sutherland suggests an alternative way to obtain the money they need, they decide to use their skills in an unconventional way.
At first all goes well but, unknowingly, they alienate a ruthless gang of criminals, involved in human trafficking, prostitution and extortion. Things rapidly spiral out of control as they get drawn deeper into the dark side of Edinburgh’s underworld.
Do the ends ever justify the means? Can two wrongs ever make a right? Designer Crime explores what happens when ordinary people find themselves in extraordinary situations – new bonds are forged and old friendships are tested as they learn to fight for survival.
