Overview: I’m the author of the Urban Fantasy Demonsense series. I’ve been writing since I was eight years old, starting with the short story “The Demon of Detroit.” That first impulse to write Urban Fantasy never really waned, probably because I’ve always been convinced magical powers ought to exist in the here and now, starting with teleportation. If I could teleport, she’d be in a small bakery in Colmar, France for breakfast, that place in Istanbul where you can look out the window and watch men get a shave and a haircut for lunch, and the impossible-to-ever-find-again tiny cicchetti place in the maze that is Venice for dinner. In addition to travel, I enjoy reading, gardening, hiking and trolling craigslist while pretending to be a DIY type person. My day job is terribly serious (and mysterious – if you knew what it was, I’d have to kill you), so writing fantasy is the perfect complement. I lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and extremely naughty cat.
Genre: Fantasy Paranormal
Demonsense (#1) When reluctant exorcist Bree Jenkins is sent to clear demon taint from Daniel Thorvaldson, a sexy ex-cop and powerful magic user, she uncovers a new demon talent for hiding that nearly gets them both killed. Exorcists everywhere are at risk if the demons are evolving new abilities. To investigate this dangerous development, she agrees to join Daniel in his illegal demon research. Daniel believes demons aren’t from hell, and he’s formed a relationship with an unusually intelligent and especially violent elder demon named Gelsenim, who provides unique insight into demonkind. He may hold the key not only to the new demon talent, but also to stopping demonic possessions once and for all. As much as Bree hates and fears demons, she can’t pass up the opportunity to pump Gelsenim for valuable information. And working with Daniel is making her feel more alive than she has since her husband died in an exorcism gone wrong a year and a half ago.
When Daniel’s ex Franchesca kidnaps the child of Bree and Daniel’s mutual friend, Bree has no choice but to work with Daniel, even as he begins to unravel from demon contact induced madness. Franchesca wants the spell Daniel has developed that enables him to mask forbidden Demon Master abilities, a spell that will make it impossible to find and take down rogue Demon Masters like Franchesca. The cat and mouse game between Daniel and Franchesca puts Bree in the crossfire and risks the life of the kidnapped child. In order to rescue the child, Bree has to consort with Gelsenim, dodge Daniel’s psycho Demon Master ex, prevent Daniel from cracking up, and maybe hardest of all, keep herself from falling in love with Daniel.
Demon Master (#2) Bree Jenkins has got a serious problem. She’s attracted the attention of a dangerous elder demon named Gelsenim, who considers her the perfect demon food. But she needs his help in fighting the Demon War that’s come to Seattle. Violent riots are breaking out all over town, egged on by demons who are possessing people in unprecedented numbers. And Bree needs Daniel Thorvaldson’s help in mastering Gelsenim. He’s an incredibly powerful magic user, and he makes Bree weak in the knees every time she looks at him, but he becomes unstable with demon contact. With the riots increasing and spreading to other cities and the death toll rising, Bree and Daniel don’t have the luxury of avoiding demons.
Enter Leander Rayne, the gorgeous man who’s just moved to Seattle and claims to be ex-Keltoi. He’s clearly interested in Bree, and might be just the ticket to getting information on the plans of Marton Varga, a Keltoi leader who’s suspected of instigating the Demon War. Marton’s in town with Daniel’s ex Franchesca, who hasn’t given up her unhealthy obsession with Daniel. Both Marton and Franchesca are hoping to get their hands on a spell for hiding the forbidden talents of Demon Master and Binder that Daniel has developed. With it, the Keltoi will be able to secretly place powerful magic users with dangerous abilities in key political positions.
Bree finds herself at the nexus of all these players. Does she trust Leander, a man mysteriously immune to her Reader sense, who might still be a part of the Keltoi organized crime machine? Does she trust Daniel, who seems to be two different people, one principled and altruistic, one violent and unpredictable? Or does she trust Gelsenim, the demon who has perpetrated horrors for eons, but is becoming more human and more of an ally each time she allows him to possess her? Her choice will determine the course of the Demon War.
