Overview: Amidst the festivities of the New Year,
a woman finds herself at the bottom of man-made pit, soaked in urine, and with no recollection of how she came to be there. For days, she’s given slop served in a bucket, receives little to no human contact, and is left to dwell in her own self-hatred. Despite the abuse, Zoey develops a connection with her captor as the story subtly examines the intricacies of Stockholm Syndrome.
Meanwhile, not far away, a young police detective new to his role is paired with his mentor on a missing persons case. Marco, whose only family still lives in Italy, is quiet, observant, socially awkward, and prefers to keep to himself. His only friend is his retiring partner, Gene, and they work closely together on Zoey’s case. Throughout the entirety of the investigation, they hit roadblock after roadblock, stumped at every turn. Their only help comes in the form of Zoey’s ex-husband, Terry, a newly-rich, but massively wealthy entrepreneur.
Alexander is nothing short of evil, but he is not your typical villain. As the story deepens and unravels, a look into Alexander’s history from birth to modern day, reveals all of the environmental factors that turned him into the miscreant that he became. Sexual and physical abuse early and often in his life created a craving for blood. The pent up frustration from the abuse itself could only be channeled through violence, and he only became more aggressive with age
