1. Notorious
Victoria Lynn Tremaine is a screw-up. Not a good thing for an armed police officer. On Labor Day evening in 2018, Tori ‘Notorious’ Tremaine intentionally commits a murder. While she herself is being investigated for that ‘weapon discharge event’ (and scurrying to conceal what really happened), she becomes embroiled in a totally unrelated murder investigation that has its roots in a 30-year-old friendship among four people whose lives have gone in separate directions. Obviously, there can be no connection between Tori’s spontaneous act of murder in the backyard of a blue-collar-neighborhood bungalow, and the meticulously executed death-by-torture inside the walls of a fabulous lake-front mansion across town. But, as noted, Tori is a screw-up, so she somehow manages to mix these two disparate events into a single, on-going, self-immolating disaster.

Victoria Lynn Tremaine used to be a cop. After killing a man that had planned to kill her, she was tricked into resigning from the Cleveland Metropolitan Police Department. Out of work, out of cash, and out of sorts, Tori is constantly squabbling with her much-older boyfriend, who has always insisted that she never had what it takes to be a Real Cop: Caution, Suspicion, and Vindictiveness. Now, she’s stocking shelves at a mega-store, acting as an international document courier, and repo-ing vehicles as she struggles to pay the debts she created when she was fully employed. But then, an old friend offers a life-line: A full-time position as a security guard on a movie being shot in Cleveland. [Well, not in Cleveland. Near Cleveland, By Lake Erie. Well, not by Lake Erie. UNDER Lake Erie. In a salt mine, a mile beneath the lakebed of the shallowest of the Great Lakes.] What’s the movie? It’s a low-budget count-down slasher film that was made just last year (but never released) by the same folks who are making this one. And did I mention that THEY ARE USING THE EXACT SAME SCRIPT? No, nothin’ suspicious there. Nothing to be cautious about, either.
