Requirements: .ePUB reader, 856 kB
Overview: B. has been making up stories about magic since she learned how to write words on paper.
Aimee Vance is a life-long writer and editor, leaving behind her days of press releases and articles in favor of fantasy novels—where her real passion lies.
Genre: Romance, Paranormal
1. Smoke Show: When the dean of Bishop College in Boston threatened to close Petra Ambrose’s Pre-Revolutionary American History department, she could feel all of her work towards her dream career slipping through her fingers. To her dismay, students weren’t interested in American Puritanical culture and the status of women in their time, not unless it involved trendy witches glamourized in modern society.
In a last hope to save her job, Petra was tasked with finding something new and exciting to draw in more students. Not exactly sure where to start, she headed up the coast to explore sites other than cliche and touristy Salem.
Small-town Maine had her imagining a quaint village straight out of a romance novel on the water. To some extent, she found it, with the quirky, nosy neighbors, but Deadlights Cove was entirely too dingy to be run by its no-nonsense mayor. Plus, everyone in town seemed to be in on some joke at her expense, none more so than the mischievous and overly friendly bartender, Blaze. Far too handsome for his own good, the man had the unfair ability to irritate her more than anyone else ever had while simultaneously setting her heart racing.
With obstacles popping up at every turn, Petra was ready to throw her hands up and go back to the drawing board for a new strategy until she wound up at the center of a murder investigation.
Nothing was as it seemed in Deadlights Cove, and Petra could have just unearthed more than she’d ever imagined. But was discovering the truth about this town worth giving up everything she’d worked so hard for?
2. Deja Brew: Nimue Fitzpatrick never really meant to leave Deadlights Cove, but after she’d impulsively kissed her best friend, Kit Sayana, it suddenly became easier to take freelance photography jobs out of town. Just what she needed to forget the mess and the amber eyes she couldn’t bear to face anymore in the Cove. Now, after four years away, it might be time to admit that she’s been avoiding him.
The last four years haven’t been the easiest for Kit as the pressure to assume his responsibilities as future Alpha for the Arrowwood skulk takes over his life. Needing space, he moved out of his family home and into the apartment above his tea shop, Immortali-Tea. Despite the closeness among the members of his skulk, there is one thing he hasn’t shared with anyone, even his closest friends: ever since he kissed Nimue all those years ago, he’s known she’s his mate. The problem is that an interspecies mate bond is impossible, so it can never be.
When Nimue returns home for her cousin Blaze’s Halloween party, everything changes. No matter how the two childhood friends try to avoid their feelings for each other, fate has other plans. With magic turning on the shifters, the town is set into a panic that requires everyone to work together — especially Kit and Nimue.
Can they recover their prior friendship enough to come together and solve the next mystery, before it has lasting effects on the shifters in town?
2.5. A Very Merry Christmoose: The holiday season in Deadlights Cove is as chaotic as you’d expect, especially with Val and Caedmon’s Great Coveish Bake-Off just days away. For her first Christmas in the Cove, young witch Aurora is determined to embrace the holiday spirit… if she can ignore her dark storm cloud of a neighbor who is equally determined to rain on her parade.
Nox wants nothing more than to ignore the holidays altogether, but when the other half of his duplex is lit up like the North Pole itself, he learns it might be harder to escape than he thought.
Found family and a dash of confidence might just be the secret ingredients for these two opposites-attract contestants.
Follow Aurora and Nox’s story, along with the quirky band of local misfits in this stand-alone novella in the Deadlights Cove world. While each book follows a different couple, the Deadlights Cove series is best read in order starting with book one, Smoke Show, first.
