The Chartreuse Clue (#1)
Bishop Francis Regan is a busy man. Wheelchair-bound for some time, he is not always the easiest of men to get on with.
But then, as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York, he has plenty on his mind…
And on his patch, he has at least one rather turbulent priest. Which is how Bishop Regan has come to be involved in a case of murder.
Fortunately, Bishop Regan’s assistant is David Goldman, an ex-cop with a host of useful friends, a side-line as a private investigator and an unconventional approach to crime-fighting.
Keen to help his boss, who has a personal and professional interest in this case, Goldman sets about finding the killer. Who would have killed a young teacher in cold blood, leaving the knife sticking from her chest?
Surely not a Catholic priest, however misguided?
It is Goldman’s job to find out, and where his own faculties fail him, David has the razor-sharp brain of Bishop Regan to fall back on.
Together they investigate, despite the local police force, and ultimately gain entry to the closed, self-interested world in which the dead woman lived.
Here there is a host of suspects; the greedy, selfish brother and sister-in-law; employees and acolytes desperate to hold onto power and some downright unpleasant individuals.
But when Goldman meets the dead woman’s best friend, the pace of his investigation picks up and it is not long before the killer is identified.
But will that be the end of the matter? It seems likely that there is more to play out before justice can finally be done…
The Fundamentals of Murder (#2)
New York City is on edge…
Auxiliary Bishop Francis X. Regan, a frustrated crime-solving paraplegic with an IQ of 220, and his special assistant Davey Goldman, a New York City cop-turned-private-eye, once more find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes case of murder and embezzlement.
A serial killer, dubbed Strangler John by the media, has been terrorizing the streets for weeks.
On four consecutive Friday nights, a woman has been murdered, her garroted body discovered the next day with a card reading REPENT! thrust into her mouth.
Despite enormous amounts of public pressure, the police have no leads…at least until Jerry Fanning arrives in the Big Apple.
A young fundamentalist preacher, Fanning arrives in New York City from Oklahoma, wife and baby son in town, convinced that the Lord has sent him to convert the entire city to Jesus.
Unfortunately for him, he arrives two days before the first murder, and it doesn’t take long before the police uncover clues pointing to him as Strangler John.
The evidence is circumstantial, but it’s enough for Fanning to suddenly find himself behind bars.
Fortunately for him, he’d met Bishop Regan and Goldman during his short-lived mission to convert the citizens of the Big Apple to Jesus.
Convinced that the police have the wrong man, the Bishop puts his razor-sharp mind to work, delving for clues among the victims themselves. Three of the victims were prostitutes; the fourth was a wealthy businesswoman who moved in high social circles.
Determined to find the reason for this discrepancy, the Bishop turns to Goldman’s contacts, street smarts, and leg-work to find the answers they seek.
Between the Bishop’s brain and Goldman’s brawn, they’re convinced it’s only a matter of time before Fanning will be exonerated…
The Fundamentals of Murder is a chilling crime thriller that will keep you hooked.
Bloody Ten (#3)
An unlikely alliance between a cynical New York private eye, Davey Goldman, and a Catholic Bishop, Regan, cannot go unnoticed…
But the two seem to have an unwritten agreement; when one of Goldman’s cases gets too tough, he turns to the genius Bishop Regan, who is all too eager to help.
When Jim Kearney’s long-lost brother, Nick, shows up demanding money from his estranged father, Jim goes to Davey for help.
But before Davey can earn his money, Nick is dead.
And Davey has committed the slightly illegal act of shielding the number-one suspect: his client.
Davey is convinced that Jim is innocent and goes to all lengths to prove that he is.
With the police unimpressed with Davey’s attempts to protect Jim, it’s left to Davey and Bishop Regan to prove Jim’s innocence once and for all whilst working out who the real suspect is.
And with new suspects turning up everywhere they turn, Davey and Bishop Regan soon start to wonder if they will ever unravel the truth…
