1. Infusion

Present-day, Roanoke IslandSaige Bennett has had a relatively comfortable life. Her mother is a university professor; her father is a retired colonel. Saige graduated high school and has no ambition for whatever she’s supposed to do next in life. Most of Saige’s life has been in the shadow of her older sister, Dr. Addison Bennett, a microbiologist who traverses the world like some adventurer in search of radical cures from Old World customs. Saige needs some direction following graduation, but doesn’t have a clear strategy. Living on Roanoke Island gives people access to the sun, sea, and escapades in watercrafts. It’s a nighttime pleasure cruise for Saige before her friends leave the island for college and start the rest of their lives. When a moonlike sphere several hundred meters in circumference slams into the ocean, Saige realizes that whatever she had imagined for the future was about to go under the tidal wave and sink like the capsized boat.

When Addison learns of her sister’s near-death experience, it is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make sure her family knows Addison loves them. But when her sister suddenly starts glowing in the dark, Addison tries to use science to find out what exactly happened to her sister while in the deep ocean.
Zhao Yong, a scientist and astronaut, believes the arrival of the Shulon is directly associated with the destruction of the lunar bases. She believes whatever had infected the crew of Harmony and Prosperity and caused the clandestine stations ruin could have made it back to Earth. When Shulon representatives explain the secrets of the universe to the world, no one anticipates that humanity’s biggest threat isn’t coming from outer space. It was already here on Earth.
