Overview: Nikolai and two others had slipped out of the camp during the standoff between the military and some of the passengers who had taken a soldier hostage, making sure to pilfer a few things while the soldiers’ attention was elsewhere. Within twenty minutes they were out of sight of the camp. Nikolai rises up the staff that he acquired from the base camp and strikes one of the bandits, knocking him off his rupa. He then hops towards the fallen man, taking the crossbow while slamming his heel against the fallen man’s neck, creating a crunching sound. Nikolai aims the crossbow at one of the other bandits and fires. The bandit lies on the ground one second later, a crossbow bolt penetrating through his left eye and into his brain. Pedro Gomez and Pontian Purcell wrestle on the mat, each trying to land blows on the other, both of them consumed with rage. The ba’thulazes in the room all cheer as they see this fight. They had seen death matches before, between creatures native to the islands that they live at. Here though, they get to see a death match between humans.
