Corridor Man Box Set (1-5) by Nick James
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 1.1MB
Overview: When he was a young boy, Nick James’ collection of battle-scarred action figures became the characters in epic storylines with cliffhangers, double crosses and an unending supply of imaginary explosions. Not much has changed. The toys are gone (most of them), but the love of fast-paced storytelling remains. Working in schools from Washington State to England, Nick has met thousands of diverse students since graduating from Western Washington University and braving the most dangerous job in the world: substitute teaching. Luckily, being dubbed the "rock star teacher" has granted him some immunity. He currently lives and teaches in Bellingham, Washington.
Genre: Fiction; Mystery/Thriller

#1 – Corridor Man
HE DID ALL THE RIGHT THINGS–AND THEN THE BODIES STARTED PILING UP… The Dirty Lowdown wrote: "Nick James has nailed it. The all too dark side of our legal industry, and the type of character we’re all too afraid to admit exists!" It looks like disbarred attorney Bobby Custer has won the lottery. After serving four years of a seven-year sentence, he gets an offer he can’t refuse – from the feds. They just want him to keep an eye out for shady goings-on at one of the most prestigious law firms in the city. And suddenly he’s out – out of jail, but also totally cast out of his old life: shunned by family and friends, working the hallways and back alleys of the legal game and finding plenty of shady dealings to keep an eye on.

He’s psychotic, narcissistic, psychopathic, greedy, unprincipled … and always charming.

He did all the right things — went to law school, got a job in a good law firm — right up until the conviction for “a minor dalliance with a trust fund”. You could almost feel for the guy – a young man tempted by the high life could make a mistake he regrets and end up losing everything. And a guy who’ll help you hide a body could just be a good friend. But as the bodies start piling up, you have to wonder if there’s something about Bobby that’s just not … right.

#2 – Opportunity Knocks
HE SEEMS LIKE SUCH A NICE GUY…UNTIL ITS TOO LATE
Psychotic, sociopathic, and always charming Bobby Custer begins to crawl back up society’s ladder. Along the way a variety of people have his number, but Bobby has a special way of dealing with them, all of them. He’s the friendly next door neighbor, the guy at work who goes the extra mile just for you, only there’s always a price to pay, and baby, you are going to pay.

The average person, upon learning of his employer’s “heart problems, his apparently estranged wife, the rebellious daughter” thinks, “Tsk, tsk, tsk. What a shame.” Bobby merely smells opportunity.

And he intends to insert himself into the man’s difficulties at every level. Admittedly, part of his “boundaries issue” is legit; the feds did ask him to poke around, and the feds are the good guys … right? But the angles Bobby’s working are for the benefit of only one person: Bobby, as he destroys lives and careers with precision, and mops up the mess with the woman closest to hand. The truth is the man has cause to be bitter; have you met his ex-wife? This time, however, it seems he may have met his match in Angie.

The dark cloud hanging over the DASH law firm swirls into a murderous tornado, dispelling any doubt about the lying, rapacious, psycho the feds have unleashed. When will they figure it out, and – can they stop him?

#3 – The Dungeon
HE’S FROM THE FEDS…AND HE’S HERE TO HELLLLLLLLppppp

Bobby Custer keeps changing his locks, but somehow he just never feels secure. Small wonder.

His women betray him time and again – despite his generosity with his pharmaceutical supplies, and, of course, his fatal charm. His mysterious new tenant and her team of large, muscular handymen – each with a pistol shoved into the waistband of his work pants — have done a fabulous rehab on the house he “inherited”, but suddenly there are a distressing number of murders in the neighborhood.

Try as he might to break free, Bobby’s present existence comes with strings attached – to the disagreeable partners in the law firm where he toils daily, to the feds who got him the job, and to mobster Morris Montcreff, who knows where the bodies are buried — but not necessarily which or how many! Bobby Custer’s never been in control, and never more than one step ahead of Montcreff, as he is drawn inexorably into the sticky center of Montcreff’s web.

#4 – Dead End
WHO KNEW IT WAS SO HARD TO KILL YOUR BOSS?
Bobby Custer just cannot seem to bring affairs to their natural conclusion. Against all odds, his boss, Noah Denton has survived each of the unfortunate events in the steady decline of his health. (Closer inspection of the events would reveal the extraordinary coincidence that each occurred shortly after a visit from his “adopted son” Bobby, but no one seems to be inspecting closely.)

Thus far, Bobby has managed to stay in the game by relying on — and cultivating — the worst characteristics of human nature in everyone he meets. But the game is changing, and Bobby’s life is going up in flames bit by bit. Maneuvered into a position roughly right smack in the middle of two opposing crime lords, Bobby can’t be sure who’s trying to kill him at any given moment. The question is: Can he convince one of them he’s worth more alive than dead?

#5 – Finger
Job opportunity for the right person!

Crime lord Luis Morales is about to make Bobby Custer an offer he can’t refuse. Not that he ever would refuse. Psychotic, narcissistic, psychopathic, greedy, unprincipled…and always charming Bobby embraces the task of forming a new law firm. Don’t confuse him with the fact that he’s disbarred. He’ll have some lose ends to tie up, his relationship with the partners of his current firm and then who would ever consider working for him? He may be lucky enough to find one or two individuals, but they bring along their own special set of problems. And then there’s Emily and her blackmail scheme. Does she go too far this time? And what about Maria? It’s complicated, nerve wracking and you might just want to leave the light on when you read this
