Overview: John Atkinson Hobson (1858–1940), was an English economist, social scientist and critic of imperialism, widely popular as a lecturer and writer.

First published in 1938, “Confessions of an Economic Heretic” is his autobiography. A comprehensive work, it details many aspects of his life including his background, influences, ethicical principles, philosophy and religion. In a life which spanned great social, political and economic change — not least that brought about in the aftermath of the first world war. Hobson’s humanist economic philosophy had a lasting impact upon economic and sociological thought.
