Overview: We are told that there is a climate crisis, the science and evidence is beyond dispute and that this is endorsed by all the major scientific institutions around the world. Consequently it is beyond dispute that we must urgently and radically decarbonize our world or face catastrophic consequences.
But many eminent scientists are deeply skeptical about this narrative and strongly dispute both the science and the evidence. They agree that human activity, in particular our burning of fossil fuels, is contributing to a warming, changing climate – but they dispute how much we are contributing and how dangerous that warming actually is. They say that climate change is not so much a global ‘crisis’ as a manageable problem that does not necessitate the urgent and radical decarbonization of our world – and that the costs and impacts of such decarbonization may well exceed the costs and impacts of climate change. Basically they say that the ‘cure’ being promoted for climate change might well be worse than the ‘disease’.
The purpose of this book is to synthesize the key arguments for and against the existence of a climate crisis and the wisdom of net zero polices designed to tackle it, so helping non-experts form their own opinion.
