Overview: When Ken and Helen Marshall are attacked whilst jogging, we meet the perpetrators from the get-go. The narrative unfolds from the interaction of all main characters and those closest to them, both victims, perpetrators and investigators. Gradually, we get beneath the skin of all of them and can take nothing about their superficial appearances for granted. As in Truman Capote’s famous ‘In Cold Blood’, we may abhor their crimes, but we come to a grudging understanding of those behind them.
