1. Deadworld
Humans weren’t meant to live underground, but then artificial intelligences weren’t meant to feed off souls. Sh*t happens. Being a Potential is an honor. It qualifies me for the mandatory Run, the chance to become a Guardian and wield one of the only weapons that can disable a Genesis scout. It also means I’ll have to leave the safety of my underground home and go topside, where the possibility of death goes up by eighty percent. Badges of honor mean nothing if you’re dead. I’d rather steer clear of any place where soul sucking AI roam. I’d rather stay safe in the Hive and hangout with my wolf-shifter co-worker. I’d rather work on the mechanical heart that keeps the Hive running and spend time with my enigmatic nephilim mentor. Heck, I’d rather be doing anything else. But I’ve made a promise to my best friend, a promise to get her to the finish line in time to win a spot as Guardian. How hard can it be, right? We have a plan. So why do I feel as if something is about to go seriously wrong? It’s a game. Just a game. Or is it?
2. Dead City
How many times can you cheat death? I’m not sure but I have a feeling I’m about to be tested. First there were thirteen and now there’s only one. But the responsibilities don’t lessen. Bring the Harvest in, they say, take the soul orb to Haven, they order. One of me, and too many places to be. Like hell am I putting my ass on the line without back up. Because Genesis is out there, and it’s not done playing, and if I die, the Hive dies. But a team can’t shield me forever. Some paths must be walked alone, and when I’m forced to play soul courier it will have to be a journey that’s taken solo. The Dead Zone awaits, and Death is calling.
3. Dead Sea
When war knocks on the door, burying your head in the sand won’t make it leave. Death called and I answered. Now Genesis is coming for us. But with the council making every excuse not to listen to my warnings, there’s no other option but to plot behind their backs. Time is limited. The sea kingdom awaits, and the sea king isn’t the kind of man to accept a rain check. It means the guys and I will need to hold fire on our plan to pinpoint Genesis’s location. Let’s just hope that the shit stays away from the fan until my return… Let’s hope it doesn’t follow me.
4. Dead End
When death starts taking liberties, it’s time to fight back. The council’s word means nothing to me. Their refusal to open their eyes no longer matters. I have a job to do and no one will get in my way. Lie, cheat, deceive, I’ll do what it takes to save the people I love, and avenge the ones I’ve lost. I won’t be doing it alone. My guys are with me; by my side every step of the way. No more excuses. No more waiting. We have a window to bring Genesis down. One shot. And I’m going to take it. To heal a broken sword, you’ll have to forge it in fire. Bring on the flames.
