Overview: A series written for the small-town pop-punk kids, the elder emos, and the metalheads. While we may never again experience the joy of a summer afternoon in 2009, we still get our happy ending.
Growing up is hard to do but, alas, we all seem to be doing it. The years come with changes, both inner and outer, which can change our perception, our path, and our relationships. That’s all well and good, but who said we couldn’t hold onto a little bit of that childlike wonder and bratty banter? Sometimes, we just want to listen to our high school emo playlist, or dye our hair on a Tuesday night, or throw on that black zipper sweatshirt with the thumb holes ripped in it.
So, here we are. This series is a window to that place where everyone is a little emo and we all have cool lives and cool friends.
My favorite reader, may you grow up in all the ways you are supposed to, and in none of the ways that you’re not.

That Bubbling Feeling (#1)
Stability is typically found when something is well constructed, firmly established, and evenly balanced. Neither Kai nor Jonah have the desire or skill to think about all that. Instead, they find their stability in each other.
Led by her heart, Kai is wild and curious, throwing herself willingly into all aspects of life just to see what it feels like. After all, any messes made can be cleaned up later.
Jonah is disinterested in the world, constantly pummeled by his own personal rain cloud and taking careful care to leave no messes behind. He much prefers to help Kai with hers anyway.
The two friends have been hanging in this vital balance for over a decade, leaning on each other heavily as they navigate childhood, college, and all that comes after. Now in their twenties and living in close quarters, they must work out what this dependency means for them, as their childish tactics may have been masking something more all along.
That Infuriating Feeling (#2)
Things haven’t been easy for June. Her best friend is gone forever, she has little control over her emotions, and her family thinks she’s lost it. That’s enough to be dealing with already, but one more challenge tacks itself onto the list: an infuriating classmate who seems hellbent on making her life difficult.
Oli is stressed out. Perpetually, it seems. His father thinks he’s a disappointment, his friends are utterly lost in life, and he’s constantly drowning in obligations. When whiskey and food aren’t enough to keep his thoughts at bay, he finds a better distraction: bugging the girl who sits next to him in history.
As the top two know-it-alls in class, there’s no question as to why they’ve been paired up to work together on a final project that must be perfect.
Conducting research, drafting an essay, and creating a presentation? Easy.
Not ripping each other’s heads off in the process? Next to impossible.
