Dark Feelings, Grim Thoughts: Experience and Reflection in Camus and Sartre by Robert C. Solomon
Requirements: .PDF reader, 1.3 Mb
Overview: In the same spirit as his most recent book, Living With Nietzsche, and his earlier study In the Spirit of Hegel, Robert Solomon turns to the existential thinkers Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre, in an attempt to get past the academic and political debates and focus on what is truly interesting and valuable about their philosophies. Solomon makes the case that–despite their very different responses to the political questions of their day–Camus and Sartre were both fundamentally moralists, and their philosophies cannot be understood apart from their deep ethical commitments. He focuses on Sartre’s early, pre-1950 work, and on Camus’s best known novels The Stranger, The Plague, and The Fall. Throughout Solomon makes the important point that their shared interest in phenomenology was much more important than their supposed affiliation with “existentialism.” Solomon’s reappraisal will be of interest to anyone who is still or ever has been fascinated by these eccentric but monumental figures.

Download Jewish Messianism and the History of Philosophy by Martin Kavka (.PDF)

Jewish Messianism and the History of Philosophy by Martin Kavka
Requirements: .PDF reader, 1.3 Mb
Overview: Jewish Messianism and the History of Philosophy contests the ancient opposition between Athens and Jerusalem by retrieving the concept of meontology – the doctrine of nonbeing – from the Jewish philosophical and theological tradition. For Emmanuel Levinas, as well as for Franz Rosenzweig, Hermann Cohen and Moses Maimonides, the Greek concept of nonbeing (understood as both lack and possibility) clarifies the meaning of Jewish life. These thinkers of ‘Jerusalem’ use ‘Athens’ for Jewish ends, justifying Jewish anticipation of a future messianic era as well as portraying the subjects intellectual and ethical acts as central in accomplishing redemption. This book envisions Jewish thought as an expression of the intimate relationship between Athens and Jerusalem. It also offers new readings of important figures in contemporary Continental philosophy, critiquing previous arguments about the role of lived religion in the thought of Jacques Derrida, the role of Plato in the thought of Emmanuel Levinas and the centrality of ethics in the thought of Franz Rosenzweig.

Download The Practice of Magical Evocation by Franz Bardon (.ePUB)(.MOBI)

The Practice of Magical Evocation by Franz Bardon
Requirements: .ePUB, .MOBI/.AZW reader, 18.4 MB
Overview: A tireless worker for the Light, Franz Bardon left behind him four legendary books which have become acknowledged classics of occult literature.

The Practice of Magical Evocation is the second work in Bardon’s opus, and thoroughly unique. In magical terms, the book is a practical guide to the proper evocation of and communication with spiritual, magical and divine entitles. It is perhaps the only truly significant modern study of direct contact with the universal teachers –– the other major works in the field are products of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation periods. The Practice of Magical Evocation is also unique in terms of its depth and complexity. Not only does it provide a powerful intellectual rationale for and explanation of the art of evocation itself, it also outlines the actual practice of the art in great detail, including instruction as to the creation of magic wands, circles, garments, and so on.

This book provides a fascinating glimpse into a magical universe.
