Download The First Great Political Realist by Roger Boesche (.ePUB)+

The First Great Political Realist: Kautilya and His Arthashastra by Roger Boesche
Requirements: ePUB, MOBI or AZW3 Reader, 1.6MB
Overview: The First Great Political Realist is a succinct and penetrating analysis of one of the ancient world’s foremost political realists, Kautilya. Kautilya’s treatise Arthashastra stands as one of the great political books of the ancient world, its ideas on the science of politics strikingly similar to those of Thucydides, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Clausewitz, and even Sun Tsu.

Roger Boesche’s excellent commentary on Kautilya’s voluminous text draws out the essential realist arguments for modern political analysis and demonstrates the continued relevance of Kautilya’s work to modern Indian strategic thinking and our understanding of the relationship between politics and economics.

Striking a balance between textual analysis and secondary scholarship, Boesche’s work will be an enduring contribution to the study of ancient Indian history, Eastern political thought, and international relations.

Language in the Americas by Joseph H. Greenberg
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 12.1MB
Overview: This book is concerned primarily with the evidence for the validity of a genetic unit, Amerind, embracing the vast majority of New World languages. The only languages excluded are those belonging to the Na-Dene and Eskimo- Aleut families.

It examines the now widely held view that Haida, the most distant language genetically, is not to be included in Na-Dene. It confined itself to Sapir’s data, although the evidence could have been buttressed considerably by the use of more recent materials. What survives is a body of evidence superior to that which could be adduced under similar restrictions for the affinity of Albanian, Celtic, and Armenian, all three universally recognized as valid members of the Indo-European family of languages. A considerable number of historical hypotheses emerge from the present and the forthcoming volumes. Of these, the most fundamental bears on the question of the peopling of the Americas.

Requirements: ePUB Reader, 2.1MB | Retail
Overview: When ideas fail, words come in handy. But sometimes you can’t find the right word, and what you want to say can’t be found in the dictionary. English has its limitations, but the expression you’re searching for may exist in another language. In Other Words is a unique collection of well-known and absolutely obscure "untranslatables"-linguistic gems that convey a feeling or notion with satisfying precision yet resist simple translation. This quirky lexicon of hard-to-translate words gives the reader a new way to look at the world and how words relate to us. The words are arranged by region or country of origin, and a brief introduction to each section-each done by a respected translator-gives insight into the culture of the people as well as the language. Each of these singular words is cleverly and thoroughly defined, with interesting details and references throughout. The search for that elusive mot juste may be over.
