Overview: My name is John Gschwend. I’m from a small town in Arkansas and my stories reflect my southern and country raising. I like history, the wild outdoors, primitive skills and unexplained phenomena. If you read my novels and short stories you will discover a little bit―well maybe a lot―of this in there. My genres vary―historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. Maybe I should stick with one genre, but I write what I like to read. You guessed it―I like to read it all.

Portal to the Forgotten
"Ours is not the only world!"
A country law officer discovers this in the Ozark Mountains while looking for a teenage girl who was reported to have literally disappeared into thin air while hiking there.

Luke is a shy and reclusive Arkansas constable. Elected as the butt of a joke, he has never done anything to warrant being a law officer. However, when his cousin, Tyler, is implicated in his own girlfriend’s disappearance, Luke must become a real lawman. The case would be strange even for a seasoned law officer. Not only did Tyler’s girlfriend, Grace, disappear while hiking in the mountains, she literally vanished into thin air as Tyler looked on in disbelief.

Accompanied by a persistent but beautiful reporter, Luke goes up on the mountain to investigate. There he discovers the world is not what mankind believes it is. There is a portal on the mountain to a forgotten, ancient world.

Return from the Portal (Sequel to Portal to the Forgotten)
Newly discovered wormhole portals prove time travel is real.
Sam believes she will soon have to adjust from the slow-paced, farm life of East Arkansas to follow her track scholarship to the University of Arkansas. Her life now is laid-back and predictable just the way she wants it. However, that will soon change as she goes for a morning run down a familiar, rural road and stops for a brief rest at an old, abandoned farm. There at that lonely, isolated place, so peaceful, so familiar, Sam has an experience that will change the course of her life. What will she do and where will she turn as she discovers she is not who or what she thought and this world is not the only one? Are they even her choices to make when a strange, dimension portal proves time travel and other worlds are real?

Requirements: ePub or Mobi Reader, 907 KB
Overview: It is the dawn of the fourth millennium, and for trader Nathanael Freer it is business as usual. Tile Dance, his ship, is in the safe hands of KathKirtt, an AI with two minds, and a loyal krewe of cybernetic and android helpers. His latest commission-to deliver a shipment of nano-forges to the planet Eolhxir–is routine enough. All seems okey dokey.
But it is not. A virulent data plague is infecting the local spiral arm of the galaxy all the way from Old Earth. Universal darkness threatens the vast concord of living civilizations. And a trap has been laid that will draw Freer and his lover, Ferocity Monthly-Niece, into an eons-old conflict. His new contract is, in fact, far from routine, and Eolhxir holds the key to everything.
Appleseed is filled with wild high tech, weird aliens, and wonderful vistas. It will dazzle, amaze and delight you.

Ages in Oblivion Thrown by Kate Gray
Requirements: ePub, Mobi or PDF reader, 1.81
Overview: Once upon a time, there was a girl. She was clever and brave, unafraid of danger, but she broke. Not her body, but her mind. And she couldn’t be put back together again…not the same, anyway.
From the shadows she was watched. They liked what they saw.
Of all the things we understand about ourselves, of all the energy we put into research of the human condition…the brain…the mind…is what we desperately want and need to master.
It is at the center of our existence. It controls us in every basic way. Breathing, eating, sleeping, loving…dreaming.
It betrays us at odd moments. Saves us when the pressure is on. It is a formidable foe at times, an ally the rest. We exercise, learn, and pray to make it fully ours. We know how to use our minds well.
But so do they.
And they want hers.

Planetfall Origins by Christopher George Quick
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 461 KB
Overview: 1,476 Days Until Planetfall
A voice pulled me from the ether of a dream. As I broke the surface and entered the world of conscious thought, I regretted signing my name on the enlistment papers. It had only been a few weeks since I had left the hearth of my home world for the cold embrace of the Mining Corps, but there was a singular theme I noticed regarding sleep: There was never enough of it, and waking from it was all too like wading through the toils of purgatory, just to end up in hell.

First Technician and the Commander walked down the steps of the company and stood in front of the formation, scanning the ranks. I can feel my squad leader’s pulse quicken. I don’t think it’s really that big of a deal, he’s not even a real squad leader, this is just in-processing, a place to gather up all the fresh meat before you get shipped off to get your unit specialization training.
