Overview: British Commandos in Action – a book about British commandos of the Second World War.
British commandos are special units of the British Army, formed in June 1940 by order of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who wanted to have troops capable of landing on Germans-occupied Europe. Initially recruited from the soldiers of the British army, who voluntarily agreed to participate in special operations.
During the war years, 30 separate commando units and two landing brigades were formed. Commandos fought in all theaters of operations – from the Arctic Circle in Europe and the Middle East to Southeast Asia. The scale of the Commando’s actions was wide – from the landing of small groups from the sea or from the air to the operations of the landing brigades as part of the invasion forces in Europe and Asia.
