This special publication, illustrated with some 200 photographs, follows the fortunes of BR on a yearly basis via sections on policy, services, infrastructure, and the locomotive fleet along with some comparisons with both the previous decade and the railway scene today. The decade saw the completion of electrification though to Scotland along with the introduction of the High Speed train but also the rapid growth of the preservation movement, all of which are charted.
