Winter Harper is our protagonist. She is an innocent 17 year old girl from St Johns, Nova Scotia, plucked from a life on the breadline when she wins the first ever scholarship to BrearCliff.
Winter meets Lamia in the wooded grounds on her first day. Lamia is also the leader of the four most popular and cleverest girls in school.
Winter is required to sustain her high academic scores to keep her scholarship place. If she does not, she will be sent home. This places her in direct competition with everyone else, but especially with Lamia’s teeny coven.
Winter begins to realise that Lamia and her followers are not as they seem.
The body of a bloodied school girl is found in the snow, at the foot of the cliffs behind the school in the second week of a bitterly cold December.
The girls set up a secret court, mirroring the Salem witch trials centuries before. A second body is found floating in the lake. The BrearCliff trials begin.
