1. Death Cursed
Once upon a time there was a—eh, screw it. I’m not exactly a fairy princess, unless we’re talking dark fairytales. I can kill with a touch, and I can feel the emotions of others as if they were my own. I was sure my life couldn’t get any worse until a man appears in my bed . . . and not in a good way. The next thing I know, I’m waking up in a world straight out of ancient myth, and these crazies expect me to be their executioner.

A normal person would run screaming into the night, but there’s something about tall, dark, and alluring Alaric that’s giving me pause, and it isn’t the fact that he turns a little feline from time to time. Plus, I can’t help thinking that if I finally learn about my lineage, I might find a way to break my curse . . . assuming the curse doesn’t break me first.

2. Collide and Seek
A small part of me had hoped to call the Salr home, but hope can be a cruel thing. Now it’s up to me to find what everyone else is looking for, and I’ll have to commune with the dead to do it. The real question is, what the hell am I going to do with the charm once I find it?

Enter the mischievous Viking. Mikael seems to know more about my quest than I do. His ancient vendetta will take us back to his homeland. Unfortunately for me, he was born about a thousand years ago. I still don’t know who to trust, but I really don’t have a choice. Here’s hoping my judgement has finally improved. Yeah . . . probably not.

3. Rock, Paper, Shivers
I can’t run forever. Estus still wants the key, and now thanks to Mikael, I’m a bigger target than ever. If any of us hope to survive, we must summon the old gods to help us. Unfortunately, gods can be finicky, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that no one does anything for free.

4. Duck, Duck, Noose
What do the Morrigan, a necromancer, and an ancient Viking have in common? Nothing, except for a common goal. Now that Madeline has been reunited with Alaric and the others, she must align herself with her enemies if she hopes to succeed in what she originally set out to do. Together, Madeline, Alaric, and Mikael will try to take down Estus once and for all . . . though they might have to open up a permanent gateway to the old gods in the process.

5. Shoots and Tatters
The old gods have returned, and there will be hell to pay. Now that Yggdrasil has been regrown, I must face the old gods’ judgment. I shouldn’t exist, and they know it. The world has been irreparably changed, and perhaps the Vaettir no longer have a place in it. I thought that once I destroyed my rival I would be safe. Now I know just how wrong I was.

6. Truth or Death
The ghoul that had been reaching for me shrieked. Blood drenched my back. I stood, turning toward the sound of another shrieking ghoul. I lifted my hands and hit it with a burst of energy. The sickly-looking woman launched backward into a nearby tree. I tried not to think about the fact that the ghoul had once been someone’s loved one, but now was little more than a monster no longer held by its grave.

Mikael swung his axe again, beheading the final ghoul. He lowered his bloody weapon, then peered out through loose strands of blood-streaked auburn hair. “I’m looking forward to the day these things stop rising from the grave.”
Sloughing the blood and some bits of flesh from my hair, I looked around the forest, past the bodies. Yggdrasil’s root had to be somewhere nearby. We’d traveled down from Asgard with the sole intent of destroying yet another root. Each root destroyed helped restore balance by cutting off the pathway from earth to other realms. Unfortunately, the roots had been left long enough that wild magics had come through. The ghouls rising from their graves were one of the less strange occurrences, but also one of the most dangerous given their numbers. While I could control other undead to an extent, ghouls had no master, and they never would. They were bloodthirsty monsters, with nothing left of the people they used to be.
