Overview: Joan Smith is a graduate of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and the Ontario College of Education. She has taught French and English in high school and English in college. When she began writing, her interest in Jane Austen and Lord Byron led to her first choice of genre, the Regency, which she especially liked for its wit and humor. Her favorite travel destination is England, where she researches her books. Her hobbies are gardening, painting, sculpture and reading. She is married and has three children. A prolific writer, she is currently working on Regencies and various mysteries at her home in Georgetown, Ontario.

The Berkeley Brigade go to Brighton because Coffen Pattle has inherited a house there. But once again they’re involved in a mystery, as someone has been searching the house. Pattle is enamored of Mary, who wants to rent the house, but when she’s murdered, he learns the truth about her. And then there’s the highwayman Mad Jack, and the tavern next door where he disappears.
12.- Murder on Ironmonger Lane:
When Sir Reginald Prance sets up an art studio on Ironmonger Lane, and a man dies, the Berkeley Brigade has an interest in finding out what happened. Lord and Lady Luten, along with Coffen Pattle and butler Black, uncover a nefarious plot to steal Roman ruins. Even Mrs. Ballard takes a job at Mademoiselle Marie’s millinery to assist in their investigations.
