All the seven chapters provide a vivid introduction to the basic concepts and logic of reaction mechanisms.

Chapter 1 introduces the reaction pathways and it includes aliphatic substitution reactions, elimination reactions, addition reactions and aromatic substitution reactions.
Chapter 2 considers the various reaction intermediates which one comes across during Organic reactions.
Chapters 3, 4, 5 and 6 provide information regarding the stereochemistry of the reaction.
Chapter 7 introduces kinetic and non-kinetic methods to determine the reaction mechanism.
Each chapter concludes with a set of questions. I deeply indebted to Former Vice-Chancellor Dr.V.Gnanaprakasam, Prof. K.Ambalavanan and Prof. S.Veezhinathan whose constant encouragement and guidance have been a principle source of inspiration for this work. I wish to express grateful acknowledgement to my father M.K.Swaminathan(late).
