Overview: The Avalon Series is a series of fantasy novels written by Marion Zimmer Bradley, with help from Diana L. Paxson. Paxson later took over sole authorship after Bradley’s death in 1999. The series focuses on the legendary island of Avalon and the various women who have shaped its history and that of Britain.
MARION ELEANOR ZIMMER BRADLEY was an American author of fantasy novels such as The Mists of Avalon and the Darkover series, often with a feminist outlook. Probably her most famous single novel is The Mists of Avalon. A retelling of the Camelot legend from the point of view of Morgaine and Gwenhwyfar, it grew into a series of books; like the Darkover series, the later novels are written with or by other authors and have continued to appear after Bradley’s death.
DIANA L. PAXSON (born 1943) is a novelist and author of nonfiction, primarily in the fields of Paganism and Heathenism. Her published works include fantasy and historical fiction novels, as well as numerous short stories. More recently she has also published nonfiction books about Pagan and Heathen religions and practices.
