1. Aster Wood and the Lost Maps of Almara
Broken. That’s what the world is now. The Long Drought is over, but the rain that falls burns like acid on the flesh. Young Aster Wood is weak compared to the other survivors who flock to the cities, the only places where a meal and fresh water can be had. But when he finds a ragged piece of parchment in the hidden corners of his father’s childhood home, he is pulled through the cosmos to a place no one on Earth knows exists.
Here, the grass grows green. The wolves glow like the full moon. The wizards play with ancient knowledge, delighted with the simple spells that can bring dying plants back to life and make invisible that which they do not want seen. And Aster is healthy again. The heart condition that has plagued him since he was a toddler is suddenly absent, and Aster finds himself running, no, flying across the countryside as if he were born to do it.
Now, he must chase down the long-lost sorcerer, Almara, to discover the truth about his own family’s past. And to learn what is yet to come for Earth’s future. And he must work fast if he wants to survive. Almara left not only clues, but enemies behind. If Aster loses the race to find him, and the enemy captures him first, he will never see Earth again.
2. Aster Wood and the Book of Leveling
After failing to locate the celebrated sorcerer Almara, Aster Wood has done the next best thing; he has found, and rescued, Almara’s daughter, Jade. Now, the two are traveling through the Maylin Fold together, still searching for the lost wizard. He is the one man who can answer their questions about why the planets within the Fold are dying, what it means for Earth, and how the evil can be stopped. But when they finally do find Almara, he’s in no state to be of any help to anyone. They must push on with him in tow and hope to find the little known Book of Leveling, an ancient tome said to hold the key to balancing the planets in the Fold.
Little by little, tiny fragments of information leak from Almara’s fractured mind, and they draw closer and closer to their goal. Aster hopes that the discovery of the book will lead to not just the healing of worlds, but the healing of the people who inhabit them. Including the one person Aster has barely dared think of for the past eight years, his long-mad father. But a new enemy is waiting for them, watching every step that they take.
The Corentin, a force of evil so great that few dare to pass along their knowledge of him, is examining their every move, playing with them like puppets on strings. And Jade. Aster thought he had saved her for good, that the release from her mountain prison would be enough to bring her back from the misery she had experienced for so many years. But her happiness is fading, and in her eyes Aster sees flashes of a malice so deep that it chills him to his core. Aster must make it to the book and wrench it from the clutches of the Corentin before it’s too late. Before his friend, and her old, mad father, are lost to his strange hold over them. And before he, himself, falls to the dark bed of madness the Corentin has waiting.
3. Aster Wood and the Blackburn Son
Everything in Aster’s world has fallen apart. The great sorcerer, Almara, has leapt to his death to protect Aster and Jade, leaving them lost and without a guide to the cosmos. Aster has won the Book of Leveling, but Jade is no longer able to resist the power of the Corentin. She has fallen into his trap, hungry for more of the malice and cruelty she secretly loves. And hanging over Aster is Jade’s own threat of murder.
Aster is alone again, unable to clear his mind of the loss of his best friend and her mentor father. But when he discovers the armies assembling to attack the cities in the Triaden, and sees how the children of the lands are being used to fuel the campaign, he is renewed in his resolve to set things right in the Fold. He must find his way back to the friends who will stand beside him in the great battles to come. But when he finds Stonemore under a wicked enchantment, nothing is as he remembers.
Now Aster must seek the great gold stone that Jade possesses, hoping that it will be enough to balance the Fold, and that his own magic will finally break through the fear of failure that has plagued him all along.
4. Aster Wood and the Child of Elyso
Back on Earth, Aster Wood must quest for gold to level the planets in the Maylin Fold.
After many long months of jumping from planet to planet in the Fold, Aster has finally made it back home to Earth. But when he arrives, he finds that the comforts he had longed for all this time are not enough to bring him peace.
Now, Aster must seek the gold he has traveled so far to find. But first he must convince his mother and grandmother that his tales of travel are true. How can he prove that the magic he experienced on the other end of the universe was real?
And Cait, the strange girl who has accompanied him back to Earth from the Triaden, is his responsibility to care for now that she has been ripped from her home. Little Cait has harbored some secrets of her own that Aster will need to unravel if he is to find the gold he seeks.
5. Aster Wood and the Wizard King
The final quest to level the planets in the Maylin Fold is now upon Aster Wood. He’s got a backpack full of gold and a group of men sworn to travel beside him until the task is done. But not everyone in the group is what they seem. From the outset, the cowardice of men takes hold and threatens to derail the attempt to take the planets back from the grip of the Corentin.
Now, Aster must try to lead the group, to stay strong until the last of the planets is leveled and the path toward balance is clear. When the core of each planet is finally returned, though, a greater, much more dangerous battle will remain. The Corentin waits in his tower, ever watchful, as the hunters approach.
