Overview: A quarter of a century ago, a great cataclysm devastated the Americas – a tsunami centred upon Chixulub – the very site where, sixty-five million years ago, a meteor extinguished virtually all life on Earth. Far from being ruined by this disaster, Valkyr, a once humble prospecting company, rises phoenix-like from the ashes with technologies that are decades ahead of the competition.
Alexandra Mackenzie is a Palaeontologist working out on the spur – that area of land choked up in the wake of the cataclysm. She and her team have discovered the fossil of a hitherto unknown species, “Aunt Bessie”, that dates back to the Chixulub meteor strike – a creature that is quite unlike anything previously recorded.
Her sister, Genevieve Eloise Mackenzie, better known as “Elle”, is an astronaut on an expeditionary marooned on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons – the place deemed most likely to harbour extra-terrestrial life outside of Earth. Having been rescued by Valkyr, she and her team are sent to investigate a mysterious artefact orbiting the nearby moon, Io.
Why is Valkyr so interested in this mysterious object and the fossilised remains of a creature long since extinct? What is their secret, and to what lengths will they go to protect it?
