Artifice
When Alan Cleverden is left a number of paintings in his grandfather`s will, he is uncertain whether they are originals or well-produced copies. But an unscrupulous trader in works of art knows their true worth; and exploits the situation, involving Cleverden in his shady activities.
A major heist is planned by the trader, which first necessitates the theft of many of Turner`s paintings. These are held to ransom in exchange for priceless artifacts displayed in the British Museum. Once again, Alan Cleverden is unwittingly swept up in this unlawful venture as he becomes a pawn in a highly-charged affair…
The Art of Deception
One of the world`s most valuable paintings goes missing – and Alan Cleverden is called in to track it down. Not just an art expert, Cleverden knows the wiles – and villainy – of those who steal works of art to order.
Edouard Manet`s Un Bar Aux Folies Bergere, had been one of many world-famous works on display on a cruise ship, decked out as a floating art gallery. But when it docks in Philadelphia, a painting disappears.
Cleverden, supported by Roger Tamworth, a private investigator, follow a tortuous trail across Europe to the heart of the Kremlin.
The Amber Room
Find the Amber Room! This is the task set for Alan Cleverden. . .an almost impossible assignment. The Amber Room, once considered the eighth modern-day wonder of the world, was moved from St Petersburg to Kaliningrad during the Second World War. Thereafter, it was lost to the world.
There have been numerous attempts to find it – all have failed. So, what are Cleverden’s chances?
He is soon dogged in his pursuit by the Russian Mafia, who want to secure the riches of the Amber Room for themselves and then in Vizhai, a hillside village, Cleverden encounters the last descendants of the Romanovs.
With both the Russian Mafia and latter-day Royalists out to remove him, Cleverden must uncover the truth, or die trying.
Original Sin
When Alan Cleverden foils the theft of a Manet painting from the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, he is convinced Nikos Ioannidis masterminded the attempt.
Nikos, the maverick son of Konstantinos Ioannidis, a powerful Greek shipping magnate, is incensed by Cleverden`s all-too-frequent interference in his art-theft activities. He is also fiercely jealous of Alan`s past relationship with his partner, Sofia Linardki.
Things come to a head when Ioannidis unwittingly purchases one of Cleverden`s copies of a Gustav Klimt painting. Too much to endure, Ioannidis assumes the role of assassin. But revenge can be a double-edged sword and Ioannidis dies in the encounter.
His father is enraged by the crime. Blood calls for blood.
With all the forces at his command, Cleverden is about to become his hapless victim. . .unless Alan is prepared to gamble all on the one option he has left to avert a father`s vengeance.
