Such is the core tenet of the Hessinae—elves that survived the human-led scouring of centuries past. Cithrel, one such young woman, has never had reason to believe otherwise. But when a link to her past awakens that which long sat dormant, she soon learns that there’s a terrible difference between what she’s been taught, and what simply is.
An ocean away, Trill, a goblin born and raised in the tunnels beneath the heart of an empire, aspires to nothing more than another day’s survival. When she discovers a gemstone in an elven ruin, she thinks her sour luck has finally been reversed. Yet time-lost trinkets of the ancient elves are seldom what they appear, and when she touches a presence within the crystalline shell, she finds that a conflict long thought concluded has only been delayed.
Such portents cannot go long unnoticed. The powers that be do not look kindly upon catalysts of change, and those caught in the middle must learn to navigate their faith, each other, and a world that would see them forgotten.
