Overview: Sebastian and Isaac are from opposite backgrounds, to say the least. Sebastian came from the privileged upper class New York crowd, while Isaac was shuffled between foster homes in the Midwest. Sebastian didn’t work, enjoyed parties and had no responsibilities; Isaac was a bartender and was going to school to become a paralegal.
When they met there was something extraordinary that clicked be-tween them. A need that had to be fulfilled. Now, almost three years later, both their lives have changed, one more extreme than the other. They aren’t into the club scene, and they aren’t very political. Sebas-tian now works and volunteers at a youth shelter. For the most part, they are a quiet, stay-at-home couple.
Late one evening, the simple act of being a Good Samaritan changes their outlook. A gay-bashed youth influences their lives, and the lives of those around them, becoming a catalyst that spurs them into action in their own personal way. It is also the story of a youth overcoming the trauma of abuse and finding out what life has to offer.
Set in San Francisco in the late seventies and early eighties, ‘An Unexpected Gift’ is about the changing times in the city, and an average couple who find their life impacted by events around them and can no longer stand by hoping for change.
