Overview: Gauri’s world disintegrates when she learns that she is an illegitimate child, born out of her mother’s liaison with a man named Raghu. One visit to her birth father’s house is enough for her to realize that both he and his family are in the dark about who she is. Things are further complicated by the death of the family’s mentally challenged daughter, Amrita. The family reaches out to Gauri and the story behind Amrita’s death slowly begins to unravel, changing Gauri’s life forever.
Usha Rajagopalan is a poet and short-story writer. She is the winner of the Andrew Fellowship in Fiction at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (1999) and of the Commonwealth Short Story Competition (2001, 2002 and 2003). She is also the author of Get Published. She currently lives in Manipal, Karnataka.
