Overview: I’ve been a fan of space exploration and Science Fiction ever since watching the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions as a child. My all-time favorite movie is “2001: A Space Odyssey,” followed closely by “Contact.” My favorite author is Arthur C Clarke, having read almost everything the man wrote. I’ve also enjoyed Science Fiction novels by Peter F Hamilton, Alastair Reynolds, Stephen Baxter and fellow Canadian Robert J Sawyer, among others.

1. Alien Dream
As the Star ship Hyperion enters the gap between the Orion and Perseus Arms of the Milky Way Galaxy, a catastrophic malfunction of the FTL drive engine occurs. As the engineers evaluate the damage and assess options for the mission, an anomaly is detected. It is a spherical object approximately 20 kilometers in diameter, and at its present course and speed, it will intercept the Hyperion in less than 19 hours. Unable to alter their own course or speed, the crew helplessly awaits the arrival of this massive object of unknown origin and intent.
2. Alien Earth
It is 34 years after the events of the first book .
A small group of families has been living on the frozen, ice-age Earth all this time, trying to find clues as to what happened to the civilization they came from. Meanwhile, the crew they’d been part of is still orbiting the planet in the starship Hyperion, but fuel reserves were depleted long ago, as was the juice in all battery-powered equipment on the ground, so the two parties have not been able to communicate with each other in decades. Both in orbit and on the ground, the new generation has been patient, indulging the older generation in their quest for answers, but that patience is running out. A new plan unfolds, but the risks are high, with no guarantee that they’ll be any closer to unlocking the secrets. Will they take the chance?
