Overview: I’ve been an avid book reader since I was a teenager in the 1980’s. My preferred genre’s are science fiction and fantasy.
I wrote some short stories and was encouraged to try writing and self publishing by some friends. I work in computers and writing is an obsessive hobby I have been trying to hone for a couple of years now. I’ll let you judge if I have succeeded or not.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy
1. First Contact
Alicia Jones is a genius, and a little odd. At just twenty three years of age, she is close to finishing her doctoral dissertation. But when she tests her latest theory in the lab to generate a strong EM field, it has very unanticipated results. Results that lead to faster than light travel, and first contact with another race.
Her life just gets more complicated after that, when she finds out who she really is, and that the universe may not be as nice a place as she’d been told. Her determination to help keep Earth safe takes her to places more dangerous and strange than she’d ever envisioned.
2. Interstellar Incident
Alicia Jones has been through a lot since the invention of FTL, and she was ready to get on with her life as a scientist and put what happened behind her. She was done with the military, except perhaps a planned invention or two. She was also set to complete her dissertation defense, and has plans to buy a house and start a business with her best friend Kristi.
Something she’d never expected happens though, when she calms down and starts to get back to her normal life, she wonders if a normal life is enough for her anymore. When General Denton calls her, requesting her help, she jumps at the chance, and finds out sometimes in life you have to be careful what you wish for…
3. New Frontier
Alicia Jones has a life that just keeps getting more complicated and ever more dangerous.
Toward the Rim of the Orion arm lies the unknown. She’s tasked to start exploring it, and Earth’s leaders don’t want to wait a couple of years to build the fleets first. Then there are the Seltan, a race that lives in the core, they could attack at any time.
Technology is another struggle, as she continually pushes herself for the next breakthrough in both new fields, and redesigns of the old. Especially as she starts to grasp the truth behind the design of those that seeded the galaxy with life.
It’s a good thing she flourishes under pressure, of course there is one more thing that might be more disturbing and dangerous than all the rest that she’ll need to deal with. Politics.
4. Enigma
Alicia Jones is concerned about a few things. The bug threat, the quick rise in technological superiority for Earth, and what technology or scientific theory she’s going to focus on next.
After a personal tragedy she starts going through the motions, almost directionless as the treaty worlds debate strongly about what to do with the Bug threat. That is until a team of scientists are put together to approach the Drenil, and try and work out a way to communicate with the very alien species, which uses technology that seems more like magic than science. It’s an Enigma which may prove impossible to discern.
5. Galactic Storm
Alicia Jones has some hard decisions ahead. Things have been going downhill, and she’s under scrutiny by the military and governments of the world. The worlds opinion is souring, and even a night out is a calculated risk. Some disturbing things come to light, and the government is determined to keep her in check, even if she hasn’t done anything that requires it. She needs to decide if she’ll fight, fold, or simply cash out and play her own game.
If things at home weren’t bad enough, the galaxy is split on the bug issue, and things are heating up on both the humanoid and the bug worlds. Something has to break, will she be able to make the hard choice when the time comes?
6. Minerva
Alicia’s life has gotten rather complicated, as she had to flee Earth and make a new start. She didn’t want to play the political games with the rulers of Earth, to submit to their overbearing control, or to even fight back. She chose a different path and went her own way.
It’s a month later, and the first batch of scientists have just arrived on Minerva station. She has many issues to face trying to establish and run a new world. If that wasn’t difficult enough, she also has some challenges from without.
Unfortunately for Alicia, Earth’s leadership has a hard time letting go of things.
