Caught in the Net (Alex Peres #1)
She’s intelligent. She’s witty. She lives in Provincetown and she’s got a great dog. Pretty good credentials, one would think. So how come private investigator Alex Peres is single…again?
When a sneaker washes up on the cold winter beach, Alex and her four-legged partner, Fargo, are sent on an unlikely adventure. But that’s nothing compared to the one-on-one thrill ride of a new relationship.
From the moment Janet Meacham walks into the Wharf Rat Bar, Alex’s usually stable world rocks like never before. Just as work and love seem to settle down, that sneaker comes back to kick Alex right between the eyes.
Alex would do anything for Janet — remodel her bachelor household, clean out the closets and even make Fargo share the bed. But if she can’t figure out where that sneaker came from, Alex may not live long enough to enjoy the happy-ever-after ending she’s finally let herself believe in.

Turning The Tables (Alex Peres #2)
Something evil stalks Commercial Street on a festive Halloween night. Private investigator Alex Peres, however, has her mind focused on fun and perhaps romance. Only in the cold light of morning does word spread of a gay man’s murder. Beset with her own worries, Alex trusts local law enforcement to investigate. They are, after all, the professionals. But when the detective-in-charge turns his attention to Alex’s friends, she agrees, reluctantly, to do a little poking around of her own.

The Weekend Visitor (Alex Peres #3)
The latest Alex Peres mystery begins with a mini-mystery currently providing cocktail party conversation to many of Provincetown’s gay community: are young, beautiful, sexy, Irish Maureen Delaney and 40-ish plain-jane Mary Sloan lovers or is Maureen simply a boarder? Opinion is about evenly divided, with numerous snickers and snide remarks. But titillation rapidly turns to united outrage when word gets out that Maureen has been attacked by an unidentified man after leaving a local bar.
Maureen’s attorney retains Alex to investigate, but far from clearing up the mystery, Alex seems to fall ever deeper into it. Why did Maureen delay seeing a doctor until all DNA, drug and alcohol tests are iffy at best? Only one test is certain: Maureen is pregnant, not from the night of the attack, but some two months earlier

Murder Came Second (Alex Peres #4)
Broadway’s bad-boy genius, Paul Carlucci, has chosen Hamlet for his latest production …and, oh, yes – he’s made it a musical! To the delight of some and despair of others, he has chosen Provincetown’s amphitheatre for his opening gala.
The cast are billeted in various B&B’s around town. Staying next door to Alex Peres and her lover Cindy is Terese Segal, an "embedded journalist" busy digging up dirt on the players. When Terese is killed, no one is especially surprised or grief stricken. But the play must go on – and does. In true Shakespearean tradition, the stage will be strewn with bodies of the guilty, and the moment of vengeance begins. But suddenly Alex realizes that the wrong people are falling down and moaning all too realistically. Someone is not shooting blanks.

Losers, Weepers (Alex Peres #5)
Shortly after beautiful, slightly wild, 17-year old Zoe Catlett shocks her family with the news she is a lesbian, they receive a phone call from a man asking for a million dollars in ransom.
Zoe has indeed gone missing, but her step mother is convinced the "kidnap" is a ploy to get money from Zoe’s father, who has threatened not to send her to acting school instead of the Ivy League college he prefers for her. So the stepmother informs the caller, "We don’t have a million dollars handy, so I’m afraid you’ll just have to keep her."
Fortunately, Zoe’s grandmother is more sensible, and contacts Private Detective Alex Peres for help. Alex agrees and begins to look into the case but her attention is soon diverted by the suicide of a dear friend. But is it suicide? As facts come to light, murder seems equally possible.
As Alex stretches herself thin, looking into both cases, she realizes that they have many coincidental instances that seem to connect. Family histories overlap. Two suspects figure high in both cases. And a lovely young socialite is connected to two older women, all three with good reason to hate Zoe’s father and Alex’s friend!
Losers Weepers is Alex’s most complex and emotionally difficult double case. Can she solve the one without doing irreparable harm to those involved in the other?

Murder Takes to the Hills (Alex Peres #6)
Displaced from their home during remodeling and repair, Alex Peres and her love Cindy are starting to get on each other’s nerves. At least, Alex is certain, pets Wells and Fargo still love them, and clients are still calling for help with their various bits of local trouble.
Trouble gets personal, however, when Cindy’s rising feeling that she’s attracted a stalker is followed by mysterious notes and noises in the night, unsettling Alex so much she even gets her gun out of the safe. Strangers asking her friend Cassie for help with undisclosed cargo, in the dead of night, doesn’t help settle anyone’s nerves.
Normally sleepy Provincetown is fraught with perils for Alex and family—and it’s not even tourist season yet.
If you haven’t walked Commercial Street with Alex Peres, it’s time to find out why these cozy mysteries are awards shortlist favorites. This sixth installment in Jessica Thomas’s Provincetown-based series features her signature wry wit and quirky characters.
