01. Crying Blue Murder (AKA A Deeper Shade of Blue)
The whitewashed walls of paradise hide acts of chilling depravity. When Alex Mavros is hired to find American tourist Rosa Ozal, it looks like a straightforward missing person case for the Athens-based private detective. Arriving on the Greek island where Rosa was last seen, he finds something deeply wrong: a British journalist has fled without warning and a pair of young lovers has been found floating in a rigid, naked embrace amongst the fishing nets. The islanders are in no mood to answer the questions of an inquisitive outsider – but do they have other, more sinister, motives for keeping Mavros in the dark? As he begins to unravel the mystery, Mavros discovers an island steeped in horrors beyond his wildest imaginings.

02. The Last Red Death
Iraklis showed no mercy. Now they’re back and ready to take their final revenge. Now two high-profile businessmen have been dispatched with deadly efficiency. Athens’ wealthy elite fear Iraklis is back – and this time there may be no stopping them. Grace was just a child when she witnessed her diplomat father’s murder and has returned to Athens determined to find his killer. Hiring detective Alex Mavros, she finds a man searching for answers of his own. The disappearance of his brother still haunts Mavros and the pursuit of the ruthless assassin could reveal more than he bargained for.

03. The Golden Silence
One made to torture, one born to kill. The Father and Son are back – and in demand. In an explosion of gang rivalry, brutally tortured bodies have been turning up all over Athens. Nobody dares speak the names of the Father and Son, but it appears the deadly duo of enforcers is back and more ruthless than ever. Hired to trace immigrant Katia Trasou, private detective Alex Mavros doesn’t see the link between the mangled corpses and the missing teenager until it’s too late. In a world where life is cheap, Mavros must put the woman he loves in mortal danger in order to find Katia and track down the dangerous killers – before they find him first.

04. The Silver Stain
Hired by a Hollywood film company to trace a missing employee in Crete, half Greek half Scots private investigator Alex Mavros is plunged into a vortex of hatred dating from the Second World War. The company is shooting a big budget movie about the invasion of Crete by the Germans in 1941 – and their activities are stirring up old resentments among the islanders. The bitterness of the past bursts into the present when one of the film’s consultants is found dead, hanged by the neck. Suicide – or murder? Mavros’s investigations into the cause of death draw him into an ever-widening conspiracy involving antiquities theft, illegal drugs and a man-eating starlet. Over it all flows the stain of past crimes, crimes for which no compensation will ever be enough. And then Mavros finds that his own family is linked to the horror…

05. The Green Lady
During the 2004 Olympic Games, Alex Mavros is hired by the wife of one of Greece’s richest men to find her 14-year-old daughter and the half Greek half Scots private investigator embarks on the most frustrating case of his career. Since Lia Poulou disappeared three months earlier, there has been no ransom demand nor any clue to her whereabouts. But how can Mavros find the missing girl if he’s forbidden to question anyone who knew her? And Mavros, helped by the irascible Fat Man, is not the only one looking for Lia. Others are far less scrupulous in their investigative methods. When a charred corpse is discovered in a remote farmhouse, followed by a headless body in the ancient stadium at Delphi, Mavros fears that one of his deadliest foes has returned to Greece. Even worse, there seems to be a connection to the Lia Poulou case…

06. The Black Life
Half Greek half Scots private investigator Alex Mavros takes on one of his strangest and most daunting cases when he’s asked to trace a man who’s returned from the dead. Wealthy jeweller Eliezer Samuel contacts Mavros after his Uncle Aron is spotted in the streets of Thessaloniki in northern Greece: but that’s impossible – Aron Samuel perished in Auschwitz more than sixty years before. The case takes an even stranger twist when Mavros, accompanied by Samuel’s enigmatic daughter Rachel, travels to Thessaloniki to question the elderly witness. Ester Broudo denounces Aron Samuel as a traitor and murderer: was he really a Nazi collaborator? Mavros’s investigation will uncover tragic and terrible secrets from the war and its aftermath, resulting in devastating present-day consequences. As he gradually gets closer to the truth, it becomes disturbingly clear that his client’s daughter Rachel is pursuing her own agenda. But not even Mavros could guess how the case will end…

07. The White Sea
Wealthy ship-owner Kostas Gatsos has been missing for several weeks, having been snatched from his luxury villa on the idyllic island of Lesvos. Curiously, there has been no ransom demand. When the police investigation stalls, the desperate Gatsos family turn to private investigator Alex Mavros for help. Inherently suspicious of the super-rich and initially reluctant to take on the case, Mavros finds himself dealing with a highly dysfunctional family with more than a few skeletons in its closet, a family whose tentacles have a surprisingly wide reach. Alex believes the key to the mystery lies in the ship-owner’s shady past and sinister business deals but the truth behind the kidnapping is more disturbing, and closer to home, than Mavros could ever have imagined.
