Overview: Things are becoming dire for the crew of the Dragon’s Fear. As the amethyst dragon stalks the edges of their survival, the group fractures and divides even more. Captain Brightfang, distracted by the health of her first officer, doesn’t see the mutiny brewing behind her back at the hands of the prisoners her ship was transporting. The prisoners, in turn, must contend with the revenge being plotted by the Tide Island guards. And some of them, like Tupper and Deysha, simply want to get off the island with all their limbs intact.
Meanwhile, the amethyst dragon has gained some impressive new tricks and an unlikely teacher: Orsull, now an unwilling captive of the monster’s curiosity. As the dragon discovers more about herself and her nature, she learns a few key things: her name, that she’s stuck on the island as much as the rest of them are, and her food supply is quickly dwindling.
Can the crew of the Fear hold out until their luck changes and the magic-negating barrier preventing their rescue recedes? Or will the dragon, growing both in size and intelligence, shatter any remaining hope of their survival?
