Overview: Chandler wrote seven letters in rebuttal to the Durham Report. He showed his contempt for Liberals and reformers who in his mind were gaining too much influence. He was opposed to a maritime union and attacked the idea of responsible government preferring his vision of the colonies under a monarchical system within the empire ruled by an aristocratic elite.
These Letters, written on the spur of the moment, first appeared in the Times Newspaper, and are now gathered into a Pamphlet to meet the wishes of many Persons who feel interested in the North American Colonies.–intro.
