A.R.EX. series by Angelo Facchin (#1-#2)

Overview: I know that there are people out there who will read this and ask themselves whether or not I lost my mind because in their minds, I was setting up the A.R.EX. project to be science-fiction. After all, Patrick Sandlak was a scientist using a laboratory to create anthropomorphic reptiles.
The idea behind the A.R.EX. project, in the context of the story, was that Patrick Sandlak had little time to set up the project and create the soldiers, while finding means to control them, and at the same time, contemplating the logistics of how his project would work. A lot of money was being put into the project, and if there’s one thing human beings living in a Capitalist society are not known for, it’s their patience. Supposing it was possible to create an anthropomorphic reptile using an entirely scientific method, the transformation alone would probably take somewhere from a few weeks to a few months, since the subject’s genetic code is being rewritten. It was a conscious decision on my part to give the protagonists no time to stop the transformation. The only way I thought of making that possible, was to create a parallel world to our own in which live only anthropomorphic reptiles. That gave me the opportunity to make plots involving two of those reptiles living in our world, both of whom have very different experiences and involvement in the story.
Genre: Science Fiction
1. The A.R.EX. Origin
It has been five years since the A.R.EX. project’s first genetics experiment to create a new breed of super-efficient reptilian soldiers. Rivers, a newly created being, feels out of place in the human world, burdened by his creation, physical appearance, and the reality of his nonexistent identity and past life as Erikson Meyers. As he tries to enjoy his life living as Alex Rivers in New York City, he has no idea that someone out there hates him enough to ruin his life.
As Arex attempts to exist peacefully, away from the prying eyes of the perpetually hungry paparazzi, a new humanoid reptile stalks the homeless, assaulting and robbing the innocent of what little they have. As the FBI begins an investigation to identify the perpetrator, Arex is the obvious suspect, since there are no other reptilian soldiers like him out there—or so they think. Soon, however, they must face the horrible possibility that someone has been able to replicate the secret A.R.EX. serum.
2. The A.R.Ex. Project: Transformation
When New York City lawyer Janiece Ryder hears about a genetics experiment that is creating a new breed of reptilian soldiers who are both super-efficient and expendable, she knows that she should stop it. The only question she has is how.
But when the company creating these soldiers, BIOGENCORP, learns that Janiece has acquired information about the experiment, it sends the A.R.EX. group’s first soldier, called Arex, on a mission to silence Janiece for good. And to make matters worse, the FBI has begun to think that Janiece is involved with the escape and kidnapping of one of her convicted clients, Erickson Meyers.
As the soldier studies Janiece, he begins to question why he was asked to assassinate a woman who doesn’t appear to have done anything wrong. Unsure of his past before joining the A.R.EX. project, Arex wonders if Janiece can help him uncover the truth. The one who seems to have all the answers is the very person they’re trying to stop. They both find themselves putting their lives at risk in order to ensnare the scientist behind the A.R.EX. project before it’s too late.
