When Alex and his friends go to his parents’ beach house on Long Island they meet the mysterious Marcus Reed, who has just bought the house next door. What Alex doesn’t realise, is that the chance meeting will change his life forever.
Following a near death experience with a patrolling shark, the friends are rescued by Marcus who then agrees to go to Alex’s for dinner. As Marcus is leaving, he shares an unexpected kiss with Alex.
The next day Alex feigns a headache so he can spend it with Marcus while the rest of his friends go off together. Alex finds that he is falling for Marcus but they are disturbed by Cherry who tells him that his mother has collapsed and is in hospital.
When Alex goes back to New York he discovers that his mother is in surgery and that his father’s business is failing and about to go bankrupt.
Having decided that his liaison with Marcus had been a mistake, Alex now finds that he needs and wants him more than ever. He contacts him and they end up at his apartment.
But Alex’s turmoil only deepens when he spends the night with Marcus. What will he decide to do, when his friends finally find out what he has done with another man? Will he be able to face them and, more importantly, will they accept the new Alex?
