A Nation Betrayed: Secret Cold War Experiments Performed on our Children and Other Innocent People by Carol Rutz
Requirements: .ePUB Reader | 470 kb
Overview: "A Nation Betrayed" is a critical reference on the MKULTRA mind control projects executed by the United States Central Intelligence Agency during the cold war. Rutz documents in great detail, her memory of the nefarious methodsused against her as a child by MKULTRA scientists in their attempt to gain complete control of her mind and behavior for intelligence purposes, and substantiates her personal account throughout with related citations from official declassified CIA MKULTRA documents.
It is painful to consider that the United States government would ever authorize and participate in such abuse and exploitation of children, and that healers– doctors and psychologists, would ever participate in such projects. And we naturally reject the possibility that one individual could ever gain control of an other individual’s mind, or make an other individual do anything against his or her free will. To preserve our sanity, we need to believe we have dominion over our own minds.
The importance of this book is that it provides sufficient detail and evidence that the reader must begin to question these comfortable assumptions.
Therapists who work with clients who recall having been used in the mind control projects are familiar with the phenomenon of such trauma memories coming forward in exquisite detail. It is often as if these memories were held in a time capsule, unmodified by ensuing experience, and when the memory is finally cracked open, full narratives, including, “he said-she said,” and the sensory elements of the experience, spill forward, in pristine form.

Rutz shares exquisite details in this book, including step-by step dialogues of what her programmers said and did, and how she responded, both verbally and internally. It is this level of detail that makes the process of mind control so comprehensible to the reader.
Rutz describes her programmers’ use of terrifying abuse to create a foundation of fear that would ensure obedience; electroshock to force her psyche to form new self-states that the programmers could then command; the naming of these new self-states to allow programmers to call these forward when they wanted them; the deliberate bonding of self-states to the programmer with bottle-feeding, affection, and words, making these self-states dependent on the programmer for survival; and the use of hypnosis to implant places in her mind to sequester the programmed self-states from her normal consciousness and to cause specific self-states to remember particular events and to keep memories of the extreme abuse dissociated from her normal conscious recall.
A Nation Betrayed is a very important book. It is one of the main sources we have for truly understanding the psychological mechanisms that make mind control programming possible. I recommend it to both researchers in the study of mind control, and to all United States citizens concerned with maltreatment of children and abuses of children and abuses of power by government agencies."
