Overview: Mary Danby is mostly known for being for many years in the ‘70s and ‘80s the editor of the cult British anthology series Fontana Books of Great Horror Stories, as well as of the YA Armada Ghost Books series. Breaking the unwritten rule that an editor should not include his/her own stories in the material selected for the anthologies he/she edits, Danby actually wrote a horror tale for each Fontana Horror from the 5th to the 17th volume and a ghostly piece for the Armada series from the 3rd to the 15th volume. (incidentally, in the same years , Robert Aickman was committing the same sin while editing the Fontana Books of Great Ghost Stories).
