P’tit Cadeau: [P’TIT CADEAU (euphemism) – the “small gift” French hustlers ask for to let you know they expect to be paid]
Ben, an American art professor on a painting sabbatical in the south of France, rents a room in an isolated village to avoid the tourist crush. There he meets his landlady’s brother, the sensitive and childlike loner Jean-Yves, whom the locals consider simple minded because he is "different". Ben makes him his principal model and undertakes to build his self-confidence and prepare him to fend for himself.
Jean-Yveshas never had a friend before. As they grow closer, Ben comes to realize the extent of the young man emotional needs, and his total dependence and unbridled devotion frighten him. Has he taken on more responsibility than he can handle? Should he allow himself to fall in love with Jean-Yves when he knows their relationship must end when his sabbatical is over?
The City of Lovely Brothers: "The City of Lovely Brothers" is a family saga, the history of Caladelphia Ranch, jointly owned by four brothers, Calvin, Caleb, Calhoun and Caliban Caldwell and how it grew and prospered, and how rivalry between the brothers led to its breaking up and decline. New Lives: Three people trapped in dead-end situations give up nearly everything they’ve ever known hoping to find a better future:
* Otis lives alone and without prospects in a dying Nevada village. He has lost hope the man who took advantage of him years ago will return and now dreams of becoming a porn star.
* Jared, an abused runaway, can’t stay forever with the kindly trucker who picked him up hitchhiking. They need to find a safe place for him to live.
* Larry Jordan, a closeted collector of valuable gay erotica, fears the residents of his conservative, middle-class community will soon discover his secret life. He has just one friend, whom he met only recently.
Three gay men who don’t know each other and never will, but whose stories intertwine in unusual and unexpected ways…
Les Ardoises: Félicien, a waiter at a café-bistro on the French Riviera, is picked up by an American tourist while his girlfriend is away. He’s not particularly hung up about his sexuality, and with another man there are no strings attached. Right?
Félicien works at Les Ardoises, a café-bistro in Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera. When his girlfriend leaves for two weeks with her family, he hooks up with Joel, an American businessman. Félicien has swung that way before, but thinks he doesn’t risk getting involved with a man as he might with a woman.
As it turns out, Joel will be around longer than a few days. He wants more than a one-night stand, and Félicien isn’t one to pass up a few days on a yacht with the handsome, sexually talented American. Before long, they’ve been seen together often enough for people to wonder about their relationship, and Félicien finds himself questioning who he is and what he wants from life.
Memoirs of Colonel Gerard Vreilhac: "When I think of the things that happened and the things I did, it is as though I were living them … My hands feel what I touched, and the smells that surrounded me fill my nostrils … Old joys swell my heart, old sorrows clutch at my throat … I remember every face, every name, every street …"
So Gérard Vreilhac begins the story of his life from his boyhood as a gardener at the Château d’Airelles before the French Revolution through six decades of upheaval and social change to the eve of Napoleon III’s coup d’état. It is a story of heroism and devotion, of political intrigue, of the great battles fought in Napoleon’s conquest of Europe, and of unprecedented upward mobility. Most of all it is the story of the men he loved: Julien, the aristocrat; the jealous and possessive Laurent; his Egyptian houseboy, Akmoud; Anatole, a male prostitute… And every time he fell in love with a man, it was forever
